A little change of contrast potentometer ( JUST 5 DEGREES ON EITHER SIDE
OF PRESENT ) would also help orientation.

That decision is up to the builder... If socketing I imagine I2C LCD is going to be needed and/or remote mounting the LCD.

The one supplied has a 4 mm shaft while the encoder has a 6 mm shaft.
I found Mentor Knobs that had the same style for both shaft sizes. See my

I had the same problem with my Bitx40. You just need to adjust the display contrast that¡¯s the variable resistor on the back of the display board.
