Did you use 1/4" tubing like that used in the url? If so, you can double
the efficiency by going to 3/4" pipe of the same length as the tubing.

I found a simple fix for my receive noise. I used an antenna tuner!
Thanks for all the good suggestions from the group.
As well as changing my Bitx40 enclosure, I had changed my antenna. I went from a 40m dipole (with a balun and coax feeder) to a ZS6BKW with parallel feedline, a balun and coax into the Bitx40.
I presume the feeder picked up more noise and my Bitx40 front end was being swamped. I guess the MFJ-901b tuner has improved attentuation of the out-of-band signals.
Now receive is good and I¡¯m getting about 4 watts out from 12v and 10w out from 20v (measured on a Daiwa CN-801HP).

Hi all,
I moved my Bitx40 board to a smaller enclosure and somewhere along the line I ended up with massive breakthrough from AM stations.
This happened even with the VFO unplugged from the board.
The breakthrough stopped (surprisingly) when I grounded the centre contact of the antenna input. 7mhz ?SSB signals came through fine!
I experimented with a couple of capacitors across the antenna input instead of the grounding, and finally used a 100pf capacitor. Now the receive is great, no AM breakthrough at all and a reduction in noise. Signals still getting through fine.
Transmit seems ok (on a nearby receiver), but I haven¡¯t tested power output.
I¡¯m not sure how that all worked. I have Peter parker¡¯s improved audio transmit mod. Also?removed the 1uf capacitor between pins 1 and 8 of the LM386 and replaced with resistor/capacitor.
Any thoughts?

I had understood the other details you mention, already had both versions saved and ready to put to work, I just wasn¡¯t sure you still had boards. I understand none of this is a kit, I built a couple of Heathkits back in the mid 80¡¯s. ?I explain all of this as being a platform to experiment with. ?It will be a group buy, we meet twice this week, so I will get a good number for the buy. ?
Keep on coding, I used to code on AS/400¡¯s real near you¡.all over Cincinnati area¡I thought that neuro domain was gone, Arduinos have opened up that world again, of me, in bite sized chunks that I can handle, no more 20k mainlines possible for me. ?Having a lot of fun. Starting from scratch all over again. Books work real good for me, that¡¯s why I have yours. ?Since I don¡¯t have short term memory worth anything, these online mazes are really tough.
I will be making an order by the end of the week.

Does the VFO need to be connected to the BITX for the frequency to change and the switch to behave properly?

Slight Inverted V light and easy
Thought I would share this one.
Used some cheap junk box spool of speaker wire, a banana connector and some plastic insulators with a case mount so-239.

I have put the details of my TFT VFO + BFO on blog and github. It is a design where standard arduino Mega 2560 is used. The 2.4 inch TFT sits right on top and a specially designed board for Si5351 etc piggybacks on Mega next to TFT. All extra pins from Mega are brought out on this board on the back side, for ease of connection. These extra pins should be sufficient for controlling bands etc. It is a completely touch controlled version.
The Arduino sketch is working but pitfalls are expected. The basic manual detailing various touch buttons is on blogspot.

What Vince asked: How big? I'm just finishing up a 2 loop 4' one. Not sure how well it's going to perform on 40, but that's as big as I can get into the attic. Have to finish up the feed mechanism. I heard one person all nite. In fact all the Sundays I've tuned in it's the only one that was half way legible (I'm not a fan of his mic). The last 3 of his call were CGH and the beginning was K? or W? might have been 4. Like I said, I'm not a fan of his mic, took 10 times to make out the word Golf when he said his cal phonetically.
Did anyone else hear him? He was in North Carolina.

I heard several stations. I worked K0GSG who was running 1500 watts. I tried to get him to call for bitx stations and act as a net control. In spite of telling me I was 5-9 I was never able to convey my request. I did get a good audio report which was welcome. I hear? BITX stations in Boston, an 8 station who¡¯s call I never fully copied and a station portable in Colorado. Station here is running 13 watts to a G5RV at 70 feet.? Tonight I was running on an 18 Volt Mikita drill battery with a regulator for the 12 Volts. I will try again at 10 PM EDST. ? v/r Fred W4JLE Gilbert, SC ? ? ?
