Re: VCO/VFO stability

Thanks Nick and Raj.
Nick, perhas you could manage GIsheet recovered from some beer container, cut and make a rectangular shield? abd try toplace above the VFO section and solder to ground track somewhere closeby. Also have a small sheet of VFO section area? have some extra leads or wires soldered? and place at the bottom as a shield from below.
?Virtually you are going to encase the VFO section. Likewise you could also plan for BFO section.

Thanks again

The toffee colored ones are the higher values like 10nf. Hard to find 1nf and higher.

Sarma,

The NPO/C0G that I have seen tend to have a white/grey color compared to the brown/yellow of standard types. This may be because of the material used.

I wouldn't necessarily say that all brown ones aren't NPO/C0G though or that this is a general rule. Just something I have taken notice to. I could very well be wrong. I doubt there is any standard.

Hope this helps and isn't misleading.

PS: Anything conductive near the board (if it isn't already in a metal enclosure) that can move around will detune the oscillator depending on proximity. I have mine in a plastic box that came with it. Sitting on top of another box that is metal, if it shifts away from this box after I have tuned in a station it will detune it.

Unfortunately, I have yet to make a contact with it. The guys with the 800 watts or so out don't seem to hear me. Or could be my end fed wire. I don't give up too easy.

Re: Bitx40 buying infos request

I'd assume if you emailed them directly you could change the shipping address and other bits as needed. Personally I'd email them ahead of time and make the arraingments so they could keep a eye out for when the payment comes through.

Good video and thank you for posting!

Re: Bitx40 buying infos request

Hi Sara,

On my package the value was showing $59 (USD).

Customs fees depend on your country laws.

In Canada I did not have to pay.

Packet is sent using India Post.

Best of luck,

Re: Dot notation for transformers

Try this one:

#209: Basics of Phase Dots on Transformer Windings

Published on Aug 11, 2015

This video describes what the "phase dots" are that you often see adjacent to windings of a transformer. It discusses how these dots are used in certain circuits to establish a desired phase relationship between the signals on the various windings. A couple of tips are given regarding how to determine the phasing relationship on homebrew transformers. Finally, measurements are made with an oscilloscope on a trifilar wound transformer to see the phase relationship between the signals on each of the windings with respect to the phasing dots.

Nicely done!

Re: Order - How to find details

Hi Kevin!

I was in your shoes. I placed the order on Dec. 24 and I have received, from Paypal, an email on Dec. 30 with information about shipping, once those were updated by HF Signals.

For me it took almost three weeks from that email to get the kit.

Wired it up as per instruction and everything has worked great, It is a great radio and the price is very low by any standards. For this price you will not be able to build it yourself!

Yes, I had some frequency error (about 150 Hz), but I calibrated as per instructions provided on the website with one major modification: THE WIRE USED TO CALIBRATE IS THE RED WIRE NOT BROWN!

If you use the brown wire nothing gets broken but it will not work.

Best luck
