Spike Jonze The sci-fi romance film ¡°Her¡± was director Spike Jonze¡¯s solo screenwriting debut, and it¡¯s safe to say he knocked it out of the park. The movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson, was nominated for Best Picture in 2013 and won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. It tells the story of Theodore (Phoenix), a man who falls in love with his artificially intelligent assistant, Samantha (voiced by Johansson). Theodore represents two of the film¡¯s main themes: loneliness and isolation. Fw: ¡®The Masked Singer¡¯ recap: APRIL 30
From: Sharon Pohlman ¡®The Masked Singer¡¯ recap: An Oscar winner unmasks in shocking ¡®Semi-Finals Night¡¯ twist Denton Davidson Reality TV April 30, 2025 It's the semi-finals on The Masked Singer and the final four are ready to battle it out ahead of next week's blockbuster season finale. Tonight, the finalists will go head-to-head to get one step closer to the prestigious Golden Mask trophy. The winner of each battle will advance to the finale while the bottom two will fight it out in a brutal smackdown for the ages. Get ready for thrilling performances as panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Rita Ora play detective on ¡°Semi-Finals Night¡± of The Masked Singer airing Wednesday, April 30 (8 p.m. ET/PT) on Fox. Nick Cannon hosts the wild and wacky fun. Boogie Woogie vs. Pearl Ahead of the night's first epic battle, Boogie Woogie and Pearl shared a few thoughts before fighting entering the ring: "It's a showdown you want? Well, I am no stranger to fighting for survival," said Pearl. "Here, I've shown I can do any and all genres ¡ª and I've kept the panel spinning in circles. You know, one thing about me is I'm not afraid to blaze a trail. When I first broke onto the scene there weren't many women doing what I was doing. I thought, 'Why not?' So I started my own movement and ended up opening doors for so many others. But tonight, it's about showing Boogie Woogie the door. And believe me, it won't be easy, but I can stand up for myself so ... bye bye Boogie Woogie!"Boogie Woogie responded, "I'm not going anywhere, honey! Okay, you've got me fired up now. I'm usually a happy-go-lucky guy, but the farther I get here, the more serious I'm becoming. I'm tapping into emotions that have been asleep for way too long. So tonight I'm coming at you with an upbeat, uptempo song to bring the power of Boogie Woogie. That's what it's gonna take to beat a wildcard like Pearl!" Boogie Woogie went first, singing "Maps" by Maroon 5 before revealing he has a connection to Ken. He told the panelist, "You're clearly a fan of mine, as you're one of my millions of followers. I promise when this is over I will finally follow you back." The panelists guessed Boogie Woogie was Ed Sheeran (Ken), Kevin Jonas (Rita), or Justin Guarini (Jenny). Pearl fought back by singing "You Don't Own Me" by Lesley Gore before telling Jenny, "Not only did we walk the same carpet, but you watched me win one of my biggest awards at the AMAs." The panelists guessed Pearl was Kacey Musgraves (Jenny), Martina McBride (Ken), Ann Wilson (Robin), or Natalie Maines (Rita). The Winner The winner of this battle was Pearl! She will advance straight into the finale while Boogie Woogie heads into the final smackdown later tonight.Mad Scientist Monster vs. Coral In the night's second battle, Mad Scientist Monster took on Coral. Before the big competition, they shared a few more clues while engaging in some smack talk: "I am so pumped for a battle," Coral said. "I mean, I'm the youngest left in the competition ¡ª and ¡ª I'm actually one of the youngest ever to get this far. There's only one thing left to do ¡ª and that's wipe the floor with this crazy old scientist." Mad Scientist Monster fired back, "Hey! I'm not that old. Plus, with age comes experience ¡ª and believe me ¡ª I've been training for this my whole life. As an athlete-turned-singer, I apply a sports mentality to all my performances. I'm not just cruisin' here, I'm working hard. I'm doing cardio, keeping my strength up, carbo-loading ¡ª so I'm more than ready to take down this little tadpole." Coral took the stage first singing "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish before telling Rita, "Your franchise and my franchise are going to make beautiful sweet music later this year." The panelists guessed Coral was Meg Donnelly (Rita), Kylee Russell (Rita), Sofia Carson (Rita), Peyton List (Ken), or Hailee Steinfeld (Jenny). Mad Scientist Monster stepped up to the challenge by singing "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" by Shaboozey before asking Robin, "Remember that Lucky Duck clue about someone stealing something from you?

Beatles Article Long Article
Came across this article and wanted to share Chuck ¡°We could see John begin smiling. At the end of the first verse, he gave an exuberant thumbs-up and McCartney and Harrison began slapping each other on the back¡±: How one Beatles track spawned a recording technique revolution Features By Andy Price published 8 hours ago Originally called ¡¯The Void¡¯, the groundbreaking song found the Fab Four exploring higher planes of consciousness - and leaning on the studio more than ever before (Image credit: Santi Visalli Inc./Getty Images) PRODUCER WEEK 2025: The 1960s were a decade of quite astonishing change. The conservatism and austerity of the postwar period was besieged by the blooming of pop culture - and a new era of self-expression began to flower in the heads of a generation. By 1966, culture, fashion, art and comedy were undergoing a giddy renaissance, yet it was pop music that was the prime mover. Its influence over the youth now solidified, pop could push beyond its hormone-fuelled bedrock. It was increasingly wandering into new frontiers of possibility. Nothing exemplified this as clearly as the sonic evolution of the Beatles. Since their explosion into the public consciousness a scant three years earlier, the Fab Four had demonstrated an aptitude for pop songwriting. Now, curiosity - and competition - had spurred them to deviate away from the thematic norms of pop songwriting (I.e. Love, relationships and relentless positivity). On their sixth studio album, Rubber Soul in 1965, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr had widened their musical scope significantly. Edging away from the dictates of pop commerce, Rubber Soul rippled with more mature themes - and a more varied instrumental palette. But it was 1966¡¯s Revolver that really instigated the Beatles¡¯ pioneering second stage. One track in particular is undoubtedly a firm contender for being the most groundbreaking in the history of recorded music. Tomorrow Never Knows was the very first track to be cut for the album, and contained multitudes of technical innovations. It sounded unlike anything anyone had ever heard before. And yet, it resonated with the era perfectly. The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows - YouTube Watch On Surrendering to the void Accompanying their desire to be more creatively ambitious, the heavy demands of touring internationally had also started to take their toll on the four young men, then still in their mid-twenties. While by 1965, the Beatles were regularly filling out football and baseball stadiums in the US, the increased stress of the security implications, a gruelling schedule and sheer volume of their often-hysterical audiences led to increased dissatisfaction. Behind the closed doors of their studio, Abbey Road (then known as EMI Recording Studios), the Beatles found a safe haven. It was calm, secure ground on which they could focus on their core passion with freedom and support. Inspired by the politically-charged and self-reflective writing of Bob Dylan, the neo-philosophy of the fomenting acid culture and the unbridled sonic adventurousness of the Beach Boys, the Beatles were driven to challenge themselves as songwriters. Partly excited by the potential of the studio, the group were also wary of being left behind as pop¡¯s inexorable pace quickened. They wanted to be taken more seriously as artists, as opposed to the conveyors of pop confectionary that some more 'cerebral' commentators regarded them as. Revolver demolished the notion that the Beatles were a passing fad. It re-framed them as music¡¯s most intrepid pioneers, while at the same time, the biggest entertainment fixture on the planet. An impressive balance that nobody has yet been able to match. Revolver¡¯s final track was recorded first, and was borne out of a particularly strange starting point.(Image credit: Keystone/Getty Images) Originally dubbed ¡®Mark 1¡¯ and later ¡®The Void¡¯ - Tomorrow Never Knows was inspired by Lennon¡¯s mind-expanding perusal of psychedelic drug advocate Timothy Leary¡¯s ¡®The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Bo

Inspiring Quotes for Wednesday, April 30, 2025
He who has peace of mind disturbs neither himself nor another. Epicurus The ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus posited happiness as life¡¯s ultimate goal. But he also believed that our human fears often stop us from reaching that goal, and that only in freeing the mind from anxiety and worry can we experience freedom and peace. In fact, the lifestyle we now call ¡°Epicurean¡± refers to one that focuses on the most basic joys of life: things like friendship, knowledge, virtue, and sense-based comforts such as food and good health. When we simplify life in that way, we can be at peace not only with ourselves but also with the people around us. Across millennia, Epicurus reminds us that the simplest pleasures, enjoyed in good company, are often the best. Mary Live long and prosper

Fw: ¡®The Voice¡¯ Season 27 Episode 12 recap: April 28
From: Sharon Pohlman ¡®The Voice¡¯ Season 27 Episode 12 recap: Kelsea and Adam narrow their teams from 5 to 2 in ¡®Playoffs Premiere John Benutty Reality TV April 28, 2025 \The Voice Season 27 advanced to the "Playoffs" stage of the competition on Monday. In this round, each coach brings their team of five to the stage for a single performance that will determine which two move on the live shows. By the end of the round's 20 performances, only eight artists will remain in the competition. Mega Mentors Sheryl Crow and LeAnn Rimes assisted Team Kelsea Ballerini and Team Adam Levine in the rehearsals leading up to the April 28 episode. Team Kelsea The five performances for Team Kelsea were Iris Herrera with "White Horse" by Chris Stapleton, Jaelen Johnston singing "If You're Reading This" by Tim McGraw, Alanna Lynise singing "Nobody Gets Me" by SZA, Tinika Wyatt with "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe, and Darius J on "Hey Ya!" by Outkast. During rehearsals with Sheryl, she was impressed by the "huge voice" of Iris and backed up Kelsea's advice for Jaelen to not rework the song too much because he wants the audience to recognize it. Sheryl recognized that Alanna "deeply feels" a song when she performs it, was in love with the "beautiful" song choice Tinika made to inspire people, and agreed that "comparison is the thief of joy" and that Darius should be proud of how unique he is. Following their stage performances, John Legend told Iris that her voice was "shredding," Adam appreciated that Jaelen is "different within the category [he] exists in," and John said that Alanna has the "right voice, right approach, and right musicality" to be a superstar. Michael Bubl¨¦ thanked Tinika for her "rich and textured and gorgeous" performance and was excited and "inspired" by Darius for putting a retro spin on an unexpected contemporary song.Kelsea thought that Iris did "the best [she's] ever done it," loved that Jaelen "stayed true to the heart" of his song choice and thinks country music will be proud of him, and recognized and appreciated all of the hard work that Alanna put in to making her performance perfect. Kelsea was grateful that Tinika "used [her] space" on the stage to worship and said that she "blessed a lot of people" and said she's "like a moth to a flame" with Darius because he "makes everyone feel like a warm hug." Faced with the decision to choose only two to represent her team in the live shows, Kelsea picked Iris and Alanna to advance. Team Adam The five performances for Team Adam were Lucia Flores-Wiseman singing "In My Life," Conor James doing "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan, Kolby Cordell with "Finesse" by Bruno Mars, Ethan Eckenroad on "The Night We Met" by Lord Huron, and Britton Moore with "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane. During the rehearsal sessions, LeAnn warned Lucia about the notes she was "squeezing" off in the vocal, coached Conor through moving lyrics around to find room for his breath, and wanted Kolby to be "playful and flirt" by mixing up the melody in new ways. LeAnn wanted Ethan to focus on projecting his voice by making sure his "voice is supported by air" and urged Britton to find the "dynamics" in his performance because he was "beautifully sitting in one area" otherwise. Following their stage performances, John noted that Lucia's gift was "shining through" her and said she "deserves to have a major career" and referenced Conor being in his element with his song choice because it felt like he was on stage in a musical. Michael called Kolby "one of the great contenders" that could win the whole show and Kelsea likened Ethan's voice to Benson Boone and Hozier in that rock Americana style. Michael loved Britton's interpretation of his song because it showed his range.Adam called Lucia's artistry "refreshingly yours" because she's a "singular" artist on her own level, thought Conor made a good choice with his song because he "established his own identity," and said that Kolby's performance "shot up" to the top of the pack in the whole competition. Adam acknowledged that Ethan chose a "simple" song but
