Moderated How NOT to reintroduce wolves 2
Apparently the federal government has been alienating locals in its attempts to reintroduce red wolves in North Carolina and other places. This piece notes the importance of not being heavy-handed, and involving locals in conservation efforts, to make sure that these efforts are done with people rather than to them, and with respect for property rights: https://reason.com/2025/03/15/when-the-government-puts-wolves-in-your-backyard/ When the government puts wolves in your backyard reason.com Love & Liberty, ((( starchild )))

SHOP ALL CHEESE & DAIRY MEAT & SEAFOOD PANTRY & SWEETS PREPARED FOODS LOCAL FOOD ORDERS View in Your Browser Our Story: Jennifer Golden, The Vreamery¡¯s owner, has always loved being in the kitchen and entertaining. Jennifer is passionate about cooking and Science Based Nutrition. She is deeply inspired by industry leaders in the Plant-Based Foods Movement like Chef Matthew Kenney [an American celebrity chef, entrepreneur, author, and educator specializing in plant-based cuisine], Dr. Michael Greger [NutritionFacts.org] and Dr. Colin Campbell [who coined the term ¡°Whole Food Plant Based¡± and who sits on the board of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine]. The Vreamery was started in 2018 and quickly expanded into multiple San Luis Obispo Area Farmers Markets and Health Food Stores with their signature cashew cream line. Later that year, Jennifer had the opportunity to attend PLANTLAB, an international Raw Vegan Culinary Academy, where she further expanded her education with culturing, vegan cheese making and raw food preparation. In August 2020, The Vreamery opened its first store front at the Paso Market Walk Public Market located in Paso Robles, California becoming the third Vegan Cheese Shop in the United States [the first west of Texas] to showcase a variety of small batch, plant-based artisan vegan cheese makers from all over the country. In addition to curating the largest selection of artisan vegan cheeses online, The Vreamery storefront offers a small, seasonal, made-to-order menu featuring signature Panini, Custom Curated Grazing Boxes, cheese and charcuterie by the ounce and a selection of locally sourced Vegan Grab and Go. Interested in more? Read Jennifer¡¯s Backstory¡ From 325lbs to 135lbs in 50 years! My entire life has been focused on weight and food and my identifying as ¡°fat¡±. Before I went in to 7th grade, I was sent to ¡°Fat Camp¡± for two months because my parents wanted to give me chance at a ¡°normal¡± middle school experience. I lost weight that summer, and then gained it back which continued to be the pattern for the next 20 years! I have lost 100lbs or more¡ TWICE! In 2003 I went from 325 pounds to 165 pounds and the second time was during the pandemic when I went from 235 pounds to 135 pounds! Both instances were diametrically opposed in methodology. The later was characterized by my keeping front of mind my white hot intention to take is slowly and humanely. After a life of fad diets and taking extreme measures, I knew I still had opportunity to embrace a new lifestyle rather than live on a really restrictive plan for a period of time. I discovered Dr. Michael Greger and NutritionFacts.org and my passion for Whole Food Plant-Based nutrition was ignited. What I have learned¡ This is a Process, not an Event! For me, the most important consideration is to be kind and loving with myself¡ all ways, always! Today, my sole food-related intention is to continually level up my choices such that I eat a primarily unprocessed and whole food, plant-based [WFPB] diet. Thank you for supporting The Vreamery, and making this journey possible for me and my family. I love sharing with people and connecting in a meaningful way with others. Sharing with others is one of the cornerstones of who I am and what I love to do. Thank you for joining The Vreamery Community and I am grateful you are here! Moderated Sign: Mass firings hurt endangered species
Tell Congress to take immediate action to stop these actions and protect imperiled wildlife. Manatees. Black-footed ferrets. Spotted owls. Endangered species across the country ¡ª from Florida to the Great Plains to the Pacific Northwest ¡ª have just been pushed closer to extinction by Elon Musk and his tech-bro army at the so-called Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE recently fired thousands of federal workers at the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, including at least 400 U.S. Fish and Wildlife employees ¡ª 4% of the agency¡¯s entire workforce. Many people fired were field biologists working on the ground to protect and recover some of the country¡¯s most imperiled animals and plants and the wild places where they live. The dangerous effects of these mass firings are starting to come into focus. The Crystal National Wildlife Refuge lost two of only eight full-time staff members, which is bound to hurt Florida manatees because that¡¯s the only refuge dedicated to protecting them. Surveys crucial to northern spotted owls¡¯ survival won¡¯t occur this year. The loss of five staff members at the Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge on Hawai¡¯i have jeopardized vital work to cultivate endangered native plants and remove invasive species for the benefit of critically endangered honeycreepers. And at NOAA, even the scientist who worked day and night to protect imperiled orcas from an oil spill ¡ª and was then named 2023 employee of the year for the western United States ¡ª was fired with no warning. It¡¯s not too late to stop this madness. Thanks to public outrage over the indiscriminate firings, more and more members of Congress are demanding accountability from unelected Elon Musk and DOGE, and as a result federal agencies have started rehiring recently fired employees. Now more than ever, Congress needs to do everything it can to stop the wholesale dismantling of our federal government. Tell your representative and senators to reverse these harmful staff cuts in the upcoming government-spending deal to help protect the United States¡¯ natural heritage for generations to come. Moderated Take action for Earth-friendly food on Earth Day
Exploring how our food system impacts wildlife, communities and the environment. Issue 45 | March 2025 In 1970, on the first Earth Day, 20 million people pounded the drum of political activism. The demand for action led to the formation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. With so much on the federal chopping block right now, including agencies created to protect the public good, we need local policies that fight climate denial and the cascade of attacks on nature. Earth Day is a perfect time to act: Call on your city to celebrate by adopting an Earth-friendly food resolution. Cities are a crucial place for visionary new food policies, especially when federal actions are undermining efforts to reduce emissions and avoid climate catastrophe. Earth Day resolutions can highlight the role of food in the climate emergency and extinction crisis while encouraging government departments and the broader community to promote Earth-friendly food. Plant-based foods create 75% less greenhouse gas, use 75% less land, and use 50% less water to produce than animal products. The highest sources of consumption-based emissions in cities (13% to 20%) are meat and dairy, and by 2050, 80% of food globally will be served in cities. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has made it clear that dietary shifts are a key part of mitigating the climate crisis. That¡¯s why the Center for Biological Diversity has created an Earth Day food resolution that your city can adopt to show support for climate-friendly food policies. Adopting this resolution in April 2025 can help city and county departments, schools, restaurants, and local businesses recognize the importance of plant-based menus and promote Earth-friendly foods. In this way cities can take a strong first step toward creating resilient, sustainable food systems and reducing food-related climate footprints. Help Your City Become a Food Trailblazer Act: Call on your city to celebrate Earth Day by adopting an Earth-friendly food resolution. If you can't take action via our alert, don't worry ¡ª we have an example resolution you can share by emailing your mayor directly. Get the facts: Check out our city food factsheet and Municipal Food and Emissions Guidelines, including best practices and recommendations for cities. Other Ways to Celebrate In addition to urging your local government to pass an Earth-friendly food resolution, here are a few ways you can get active: Celebrate by eating Earth-friendly food with friends and family. One idea? Host a dinner highlighting plant-forward food. Check out some of our favorite recipes. Organize an event. Whatever kind of event you plan, make sure to ask any food vendors to emphasize plant-based menus. Encourage speakers to address the effects of animal agriculture on the planet. See our Catering to the Climate guide to learn about the impact of plant-based food at events. Take part in an event. If you can¡¯t host one, go to one in your community ¡ª and feel free to print out and distribute some of the Center¡¯s social media graphics on Earth-friendly food. See if you can host your own food-centered table or booth. Take action at work. Spread awareness by asking your company to have an office party focused on Earth-friendly food ¡ª you can host a potluck there too. Share facts with others online. Take to social media to share our pages and downloadable factsheets, tagging your post(s) with #EarthFriendlyDiet. Some of our favorites are How Food Waste Hurts Wildlife, How Beef Hurts Wildlife, and our factory farm factsheet ¡ª and there¡¯s much more at the Center¡¯s Take Extinction Off Your Plate website. Talking About Earth-Friendly Food Here are some talking points to start conversations, whether in person or online: Animal agriculture contributes at least 16.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Agriculture, particularly meat and dairy, is the leading source of biodiversity loss. Animal agriculture is the leading driver of deforestation. What we eat is an act of resistance: Cutting 90% of the beef in our diets and 50% or more of meat, dairy, and seafo

Moderated Baby monkey rescued here
I hadn¡¯t heard about this. The illegal wildlife trade had to stop. Of course, it will be even harder with cutting govt workers who catch the criminals doing it. I was taken to visit them and the spider monkeys who jumped all over me. They are so cute, but definitely not meant to be pets. Relieved they found her and she pulled through. Moderated Souley Vegan returns to Oakland
And just like that, Souley Vegan (and chef Tamearra Dyson) returns to Oakland. Just a little over a year since the original restaurant closed in Oakland after 14 years in business, Dyson is bringing the vegan soul food mothership back to the Town, opening at the former home of the Port at 101 Broadway in Oakland. Tablehopper caught the news and reports that Dyson is using the location as an events space for now ¡ª Souley Vegan¡¯s Instagram shows off the beautifully decorated venue for a Valentine¡¯s Day event ¡ª with plans to open fully as a restaurant the first week of April. In the meantime, however, to prepare the space in Oakland, Dyson announced the closure of her Martinez location inside the Market & Main food hall on January 1. The new space at Jack London Square will give Dyson the space to serve customers her special brand of vegan soul food, and already she plans for dinners Thursday through the weekend, plus R&B brunch. The two kitchens will allow her to ¡°support up-and-coming chefs, rent the space to caterers, hold pop-ups, and use the additional kitchen for her upcoming meal prep line,¡± according to Tablehopper.
