? Hello fellow tandemists! Yahoo is closing all groups this week, including BBCCrabs and DCTandems. After some research (thanks Dave H.!) and discussion we have determined that a single joint list on groups.io will be the best replacement. The BBC and PPTC club web sites will still be used to maintain the official ride calendar with route information. Unfortunately, we only have a partial list of the members of the BBCCrabs and DCTandems lists so we have two ways to join: - For everyone that we have an email address for, you will receive an invite tomorrow, 12/14, to join the new [email protected] group. Instructions on joining are included in the invite. If you do not wish to be part of this new group, simply ignore the invite. - If you do not receive an invite or have friends who were not on the old list(s) but would like to be on the new list, the list is visible to the public. Go to /g/B-W-Tandems and select the ‘Join this Group’ button. We miss seeing you all and hope to be able to get back to holding tandem rides in 2021! Mark and Terry Mulligan of Annapolis will volunteer to bring back Spring Thaw in 2022 if the group is interested. For those unfamiliar with it, this was an annual Tandem mini-rally in March/April in Easton MD. The event lasted four days and did both circuit rides and remote start/finishes from the hotel. We just received the following. Ed and Laurie ?To our tandem riding friends: Unfortunately we decided to cancel this year's ETR and MATES rallies. 2021 is just too uncertain right now. Your Board of Directors gave this a lot of consideration. It was for everyone's safety that we decided to cancel both of this year's rallies. We hope that everybody is staying safe, wearing masks, and successfully avoids catching this nasty virus. We are optimistic that immunizations for all will make group gatherings safe again and are looking forward to having rallies again in 2022. I also encourage anyone who has a favorite place to ride and wants to share it with us for a future rally, to please contact any of us on the Board. We’re here to help. Please stay strong. We are very saddened to report that Rodney Moseman, from Lititz, PA, passed away on December 11, 2020. Rodney was a renowned bicycle builder, bike shop owner, tandem rally coordinator, avid cyclist, cycling advocate, and dear friend to many in the cycling world for many decades. ?Hi all, Spring is coming! We have certainly missed riding with you over the last year and are hopeful that we might be able to gather at some point this year. First, a request, if you have a Zoom account that allows more than 40 minutes and would be willing to host please let us know. With an optimistic view we thought we could have a planning meeting to say hello and tentatively schedule some tandem rides for this year. We are planning to have a Zoom meeting on Sunday, March 21st at 7:00. BBC and PPTC have each posted guidelines for having rides which we will need to follow. The full guidelines are posted on each club website, baltobikeclub.org and potomacpedalers.org . To smooth the process, if you have a ride and date you would like to put on the tentative calendar please email it to us at crabs@... (Mike and Evie) and/or wabitscoordinator@... (Ed and Laurie). Looking for donation of used tandems for loan to people with disabilities. Charlotte’s Tandems US provides free loan of tandem bicycles and other cycling equipment to those with physical or mental challenges who would otherwise have difficulty experiencing the sense of accomplishment, greater mobility, self-reliance and physical fitness that comes from cycling. It is hard to understate the effect on someone who has largely been limited to their own neighborhood suddenly able to roam for miles. Based on a successful UK charity, Charlotte’s Tandems US has applied for non-profit status. We have a partner 501(C)3 that can provide donation letters for tandems donated to us in the interim. We recommend the longer route because it has two nice additional sites not on the shorter route – first is the nice view of the Chesapeake bay coming off the hill in Fairhaven. Next is a view of the old “Tacaro” farm with brick fences which is seen on the left from both Town Point and Leitch roads. Julie and I will be leading the Three Covered Bridges ride starting from Monocacy Middle School in Frederick, MD. The leaders will be riding 39 miles.
