notes from 3/6 meeting
Hi everyone, Hope your week is going well! Our AAPI caucus group met a few weeks ago. I’m happy to continue playing the role of the secretary and share the notes – which you can find here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10fjTODey6hE2YS6q5EeM97oiriun0DqtMFoEAKDKsmc/edit?usp=sharing. Just to highlight a few things for our next meeting... Neoma started a discussion about how do we go from defense to offense and create a new future? (There’s a little more detail in the notes.) I wonder if that should be our topic for the next meeting. Maybe we can find a state/national AAPI organization who’s engaged in this kind of work to come speak with us? If anyone has ideas, please share! I was thinking about inviting a few more AAPI advocates in the Alliance network who weren’t with us in Montgomery to see if they want to join this group. I have at least 3 people in mind from MN, ID, and CT. I also thought folks might be interested in this article from the New Yorker: When an American Town Massacred Its Chinese Immigrants - https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2025/03/10/when-an-american-town-massacred-its-chinese-immigrants Have a good rest of the week! test message for AAPI caucus group!
Hello, I hope everyone is managing to feel sane and find some peace and joy during these crazy times! If you’re receiving this message, this means I have succeeded in creating a listserv for our AAPI caucus group. I’ve added Smitha, JunHee, Rina, Neoma, Christina-Mai, and Stacy. In the future, if you want to send a message to the group, this is the email address you should use: [email protected]. I was also asked to give this group a description. I came up with the following. Right now, this is for internal use. But we could share it with others in the Alliance network (or in your organizations) who might be interested in joining. So let me know if you have any suggestions for improvements. “This is a racial identify caucus group for advocates in the Alliance for Early Success community who identify as Asian American and Pacific Islanders. This group first met at the Alabama Experience in Montgomery, AL in September 2024, but we’re open to any AAPI individuals who would like to join and discuss their work as advocates in their organizations, communities, coalitions, states, and the country from an AAPI perspective.” Thanks!
