Federal Problems
As I discussed at the Chapter meeting, sometimes there are issues with Federal systems that we need to resolve and we are 4X more likely than active duty people to get called by a scammer. In either case, if you need to contact a Federal agency, recent policies will make getting to those agencies much more difficult than it was even a month ago. I collected the numbers in the attached document Friday morning so they should be current. Have a strategy. I am going to try to contact the agency directly as we would have done last year. Because of the change in telephone response times that I suspect (and have heard about in recent days). I plan to hold for an hour and hope they answer and resolve my problem. If they don't, I plan to call my representative (Joe Neguse for most of us) and have his office request that Social Security, the VA, etc, contact me. I also expect scammers will see the difficulty contacting these institutions and will step up scams related to federal benefits. Please watch out for yourself and also for others that may need to contact the Federal government. Tom Lindahl tomlindahl@... 720 317 5794 (mobile)

March Newsletter 2
To All, Thanks for being members. Here is our March newsletter. Our next meeting is March 29th and will feature Chuck Robbins talking about his time in helicopters in Vietnam and after, There has been a wealth of interesting news and opinion lately lately but much of it is political and we are not so I chose some not so political pieces that I thought would interest you. The first is about the Pentagon getting AI help for military planning. The second is about making schools better. Both are important and timely issues. Please enjoy. AABC members and friends: Informative March Newsletter from Buckley SFB Retiree Activities Office (RAO) Dick Smith View this email in your browser The March RAO newsletter has been posted to our website. Just click on the RAO newsletter link below. The newsletter has FAR more info, and details, than what you see in this e-mail. While most newsletter material is repeated monthly, I try to put new info up front. The link to the RAO website is below the newsletter link. Newsletter - March Newsletter Home Page - Buckley SFB Retiree Activities Office Some new material in this month’s newsletter that may be of interest: military observances in Mar; Mar base closures for Holidays and Family Days; Renewing ID Cards Online: Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors; Tricare Pharmacy Network Adds Kroger Pharmacies; Burial at Veterans Cemeteries; Vietnam War Symposium Event; National Vietnam War Veteran’s Day Event at the Exchange; Colorado Remembers Event for WWII Vets; Tricare West Region Transition Challenges; Social Security Fairness Act; New 2025 VA Benefits Guide; New Army Echoes Retiree Newsletter; New DFAS SmartDoc E-mail to Army Gray Area Retirees; VA claims assistance on Buckley SFB; Wings Over the Rockies Museum events for Mar; etc. Details on these, and other, topics can be found below and in the newsletter. Family Days impact various operations on base (Pharmacy, MPF ID card section, 6th Ave Gate, etc.) so keep that in mind if you have things to do on base during those days. - Pharmacy closures in March are as follows: 28 Mar - Family Day. Reminder: the pharmacy is closed every Wednesday from 0730 to 0930 for Training. We have posted a document listing all the pharmacy closures due to holidays/family days in 2025 on our website. - Just a heads up that the ID card section in Bldg 606 on base expects to have some outages for system upgrades around mid-March. We will provide additional info when we get it from the MPF. - On Sat, 29 Mar, from 1000 - 1100 in the Buckley SFB Exchange Mall, there will be a pinning ceremony offering Vietnam Vets pins (limited number) for National Vietnam War Veterans Day. Free food with coffee/water will be served. The Exchange would like to have any Vietnam Veterans bring them a photo of themselves and they will display it on a backdrop (it can just be a photocopy if you want to print one out). Base leadership may be present to speak as well. - At some point (we hear the beginning of 2026) the old-style military ID cards (DD form 2, DD form 1173, DD form 1173-1 or DD form 2765(blue, pink or tan ID)) will not get you on base, whether they have an INDEF expiration date on them or not. If you still have the old-style ID card, we strongly recommend you make an appointment to get it replaced with the new NextGen ID card now! Instructions in our newsletter. - Last Saturday I visited the Veteran’s Museum in Broomfield (my first visit) and listened to a presentation by a former Navy swift boat OIC in Vietnam. Though the museum is small, I was impressed with the facility, and the guest speaker. They generally have speakers on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. The next Coffee & Conversation is on 8 Mar with guest speaker Stuart Goldstein, who was a Fleet Marine Medic supporting a civilian Vietnamese hospital. On 15 Mar Matt Ake, retired Reserve Lt Col will give a talk on the history of Vietnam. More details in the newsletter. - The “Brothers After War” movie opened in Feb. You can see

Schedule Changes 2
To All, Some of you already know about these changes but some don't so here they are: The March Educational meeting will be on March 29th. March 15th (the third Saturday), Atonement has a funeral. March 22nd is our Social event (Oklahoma at the Candlelight Dinner Theater) so we have moved to the 29th. In April, the third Saturday is Easter weekend and Atonement has a lot scheduled and so do many families so we have tentatively booked April 12th at Atonement and are trying to schedule a VSO to give a benefits presentation for our educational meeting. We could shift to the 26th if the speaker needs us to. In May, we are only going to have a social meeting and that will be a Spouse/Family Appreciation meal, probably during the third week of the month and probably at Via Toscana in Louisville. We are going to schedule it early in the evening so members who don't like to drive at night will be able to attend and still get home in daylight. I will keep you updated as the variables firm up. Dick Smith COFFEE AND CONVERSATION PRESENTATIONS - 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month at the Museum - 1000 hours. 22 February – Lou Marucheau graduated from the University of Colorado, was commissioned in the U.S. Navy . He will speak about his Vietnam tour which covered the end of the Swift Boat era in Vietnam. His tour, which was from October 1969 to September 1970, was as the Officer-in-Charge of a PCF (Swift Boat) operating throughout the Mekong Delta. He operated on the My Tho, Ham Luong, and Co Chien rivers which are the three main rivers of the Mekong. During his tour, “Vietnamization” of the US Naval Forces was carried out so that all brown water navy boats, including PCFs, and their missions were to be turned over the South Vietnamese Navy. 8 March – Stuart Goldstien graduated High School in 1963 and was facing the draft or college. By his own words, “I had a rather dismal academic standing and the local community college wanted nothing to do with me. My path was clear. I would join the Navy, grow up, and maybe even see the world. I got to do all three things in the next 4 years.” Stuart was trained as Fleet Marine Medic and in 1965 was deployed to Vietnam initially to Saigon and later to Hoi An, 20 km south of Danang , where he and other Navy personnel supported a civilian Vietnamese hospital. Stuart will share a video essay he created with images and music from this period which many of us can relate to and find this to be a powerful experience. 15 March – Matt Ake graduated from Penn State University and was commissioned into the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lt. He spent 8 years on active duty and retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. Matt will give a special talk about the “History of Vietnam” to help set the stage for the March Vietnam War Symposium. Our focus for CY2025 Coffee and Conversation speakers will emphasize Vietnam veterans. 22 March - Vietnam War Symposium at Broomfield Auditorium - 3 Community Park Drive, Broomfield, CO 80020 - See Attachment for Details

AABC is going to see Oklahoma at Candlelight
Hi Everybody, Just a reminder about our Candlelight Dinner Theater show to see "Oklahoma" on Saturday, March 22nd. Sign up at our member's meeting this Saturday, 2/15 at Atonement Church. The Candlelight Dinner Theater in Johnstown has an outstanding reputation, so AABC has made repeat reservations to see the musical "Oklahoma" on Saturday, March 22nd. This is a matinee show. Seating for the meal is at 12 noon, with the show starting at 1:30 PM, and lasts about two hours. The group cost per person is $79.25 which includes salad, entree, beverages, tax and gratuity. Drinks and dessert are extra. Here is some information about the show: Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land. February Newsletter
To All, I wrote this yesterday before the Superbowl and didn't hit send. Here it is -- a little later than I planned. have included a piece on Veterans Benefits and hopefully the links will survive. If not, you may have to type in a few urls. Of the ten links, I clicked on three. I also included a piece of warfare that echoes more articulately an article I included a few months ago about the need for new autonomous war machines with a much faster development time. When I flew F-16s, the limiting factor in a dogfight was how many Gs I could pull and how long I could hold them. I could hold 9 Gs for a few seconds. I would not survive against an AI driven fighter that could pull 20-30 Gs for as long as needed. We need to rethink warfare faster than we are. Tom Lindahl tomlindahl@... 720 317 5794 (mobile)
