Re: Improving the CW activities in Asia
Hi Hiro-san. Unfortunately I couldn't book a guesthouse for Saturday/Sunday, so we spent an extra day at Katsurahama Beach, which meant I arrived too late in Usa to head up the summit. I'm sure that won't be the last time this will happen to mess up my plans, hi.

Re: N0HFF's book: The Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy (2002); TXT-File for conversion to Morse Code audio
Thank you for your feedback Bill-san!
Conversational QSOs rarely include punctuation marks, apart from the question mark. That's the reason for which I replaced most of the punctuation marks in N0HFF's ASRT book by adequate numbers of spaces. It should sound just like talking to someone on the phone (for example, there is a short time of silence for a comma, a longer one for a period). CU 73 Tom |

Re: N0HFF's book: The Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy (2002); TXT-File for conversion to Morse Code audio
Hi Tom,
Thank you for providing this file. I have been using this text for practice listening for a few months now using the Ditto CW app on Android. You can use the app settings to change the speed to anything that you want. The Advanced class by K5GQ for CWOps has also been recommended to use this file for practice. It works well with your recommended daily CW sending/receiving practice worksheet, which I also use. In the past I had used this video by MorseCode Ninja: for the Ray Bradbury short story "A Sound of Thunder", but that contains all of the punctuation and a lot of very difficult, uncommon words. I really appreciate the work you've put into this text file. -- 73 -- *JP3REM* - Bill A1C #4246, CWops #3390 |
Re: N0HFF's book: The Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy (2002); TXT-File for conversion to Morse Code audio
Thank you for the feedback Hide-san!
Here, at different speeds, the whole txt-file has been converted to one audio-file for each speed. At 30 wpm that gives about 46 hours. At 40 wpm still 34 hours... You are right --- enough for a CW operator's life :) Have fun! 73 Tom |

N0HFF's book: The Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy (2002); TXT-File for conversion to Morse Code audio
Hello,
Major parts of the book "The Art and Skill of Radio Telegraphy" by William G Pierpont, N0HFF (2002), have been considerably edited (first by Chuck, W5UXH, then by myself) in a way that, when converted to Morse Code audio by ebook2CW or a similar tool, the audio file provides a pleasant flow of Morse Code. Just like in a real–world conversational QSO. The according UTF-8 encoded txt–file is available as archive N0HFF-ASRT-2002-edited-UTF-8.zip: Conversion tool: I would recommend to convert the text file to Morse code audio without additional word spaces, Farnsworth etc. To progress in CW, just convert it at a speed at which you are challenged, but not frustrated, when listening. For playback of the audio file, an audio player saving the playback state (currently played track and position) when closing and resuming on next start–up is advantageous. [QSP] Early 20th century historic Marconi transatlantic radio telegaph site on the Newfoundland Coast needs your vote
Following is the QSP INFO from CWops mailing-list.
// HIRO, JJ1FXF -- This is a time-sensitive issue. Two 111-foot towers in Battle Harbour, Newfoundland are historic towers of the Marconi Radio Company. Originally wood, they burned in a 1922 fire and were replaced by steel towers in 1930. An organization called the Battle Harbor Historic Trust is trying to repair and restore these towers. They are in a competition to receive $50,000 from the Canadian Government to restore the towers to perfect condition. The Competition requires votes. You must vote to save the towers during the next 14 days. You can vote once a day, and use an email addresses from anywhere in the world. Why is this important to ham radio? Peter Bull, the director of the trust to save the towers, is 100% aboard with ham radio. There is a rental place on Battle Harbour, where a station could be located. That station could be set up for remote operation (There is StarLink and 5G Cellular service there). It is a fabulous place for a mini DXPedition! The towers are in GN20. image.png There is huge opportunity for Amateur Radio with these towers: HF/VHF/ETC. Imagine the signal on the low bands? image.png This is all for naught unless we VOTE to save the towers. Anyone in the world can vote! It costs you just a second to post a VOTE! Again, you can vote every day for the next 14 days and multiple email addresses are ok. Here's a some important links: VOTE for the project once a day for the next 12 days ONLY 12 Days to Vote! Re: Improving the CW activities in Asia
Thank you for the QSO Atsu-san. I'm having fun here. The second SOTA could have continued a lot longer, but we had to hike still another 15km back to the guesthouse, so I had to pull the plug after half an hour. Hopefully Sunday longer.

Re: VarAC
GE, HIDE-san.
VarAC is like FT8 but focuses more on text chatting. VarAC controls radio by CAT if you set up so which listens/speaks to the radio by audio USB interface. So if the volume of your radio is appropriate, you will hear the receiving signals when the radio is in RX and sending signals when the monitor mode of the radio is ON. Today on VarAC I got called by someone but VarAC said “No Luck”, no call sign was properly decoded at my side. So I’m not sure if it was you or not. GL on setting up your VarAC. // HIRO, JJ1FXF |
