Wind Cheeta

Carol... I love how people who do not own or have direct experience with a product can give such definative recommendations. Now if you would like the experience of someone who has used one for a year and probably had it save his roof at least twice... The Wind Cheeta does all and probably more than it is advertised to do! It does work when the roof is up AND most importantly is the ONLY product that protects WHILE the roof is being deployed. FYI... We are currently on the road 4 months now and have covered 14k miles with our 2016 Expedition. The Wind Cheeta was the first thing I added to it!

Tim, how does the wind cheetah work when the roof is up? ?That has a ratchet in it. ?You can pull that strap a half inch or so before the ratchet engages. ?If the roof panel moves a half inch, it will leak and damage the latches.

?

Agreed.? The factory sells a decent, simple wind deterrent system with fewer moving parts.? Several third parties also sell the same concept, one particularly frugal offering providing only the fasteners, leaving the rest of the parts to be found in ordinary hardware stores.?

?

Any wind deterrent system that holds your front roof down onto the rear roof when the camper is set up will do the job, without the high price and multiple point-of-failure designs out there.

………………….

?

Carol, I would not recommend the wind cheetah.

Okay - two sides to every coin.?

Have you ever lightly flipped a nickel and had it land on its edge? ?I have ... Twice. It bounced first.

Update: Wind Cheeta does work, I helped Randy evaluate his early designs. I also was privileged to be asked to test the Chalet High Wind Protection Kit augmented bungee cords. I have such a set with improved end anchor attachment. (See my blog: www.theoleguy.blogspot.com).

Jeff Gruttz and I actually designed the concept of slipping bungee cords inside of tubular nylon straps a full year earlier than Chalet. They work all the time, and don't have to be attached or unattached, and work during setup (a critical moment that wind can cause significant and sudden damage).

My opinion: I like the Mendola protection scheme a lot ... Very cost effective.

However the square push tubes be CNW do exactly the same thing and have the addedadvantage of roof lift assist (which many find helpful)

They came out with the square push tubes the year after we got our Expedition. The roof lift feature is very nice on a large unit like the Expedition. I suspect we will upgrade our cable wind kit in the near future.
