Don't cut or grind steel near your camper. A lesson learned.

lesson learned. I washed the Aliner yesterday in preparation for waxing. When I was done I did a test area on the rear dormer roof and it came out nice, but the surface was a bit gritty. I rubbed my hand over a larger area and it was all rough. I figured it was airborne crap possibly from commercial aircraft that fly overhead approaching our airport. I decided to try a clay bar treatment and it smoothed it right out. A few specs remained. They were a bit reddish looking. Then it hit me. Sparks from cutting and grinding steel in the vicinity were landing on the roof! And of course, they are hot when they hit. A bit more work and all is well. That won't happen again.

I got filings from sanding and cutting steel all over my trailer.? It turned everything rust colored.? It wouldn't wash off with soap.? I could get it off with rubbing compound, but it took a year and a day to do a small area, and didn't completely remove it.? But then I discovered that a rust remover chemical worked like a charm.? The rust remover had acid in it, so I wasn't too keen on putting that all over my trailer, but I didn't really have any other option.

Bottom line is if you have any metal work done near your trailer, wash it right away.

I was seriously impressed with how well the clay bar worked.? I finished of with McGuire's one step compound polish followed by their Hybrid ceramic coating.? Looks new.
