"Would your brothers prefer you walk home alone and unescorted through these, at times dangerous London streets," Ben asked, genuinely curious at her comment of him perhaps regretting being chivalrous if they were home.
He arched a brow, genuinely perplexed.
?
the look turned more curious when she spoke of travel.
"Is it a professional reason," he asked.
"Lord knows my job isn't fascinating. At time it requires travel, but no farther than a day's journey at the longest. At times there are holdings a client wishes to buy and we have to take them personally to view the property. Our firm can be far reaching at times in the properties it agrees to handle. Those in the countryside in the more lovely areas can bring a pretty penny. But it's not that thrilling to take someone to see them, then it's back home again."
?
He fell silent not wishing to share too much information that he'd just admitted to be boring...so as not to become such himself. Besides her conversation was far more exciting to be honest and he didn't mind admitting so.
?
?
As they passed a sidestreet, Ben gestured offhandedly.
"Renfield has a little flat down there...So he didn't have far to walk. I do hope he's feeling better," he stated casually as they passed.
?
?
To her comment of her brother having to hunt and do manly things he arched a brow.
"I suppose some are still into such but it's far more of a sport these days than a true necessity s it was in ages past. I hardly think one is unmanly if they don't wish to traipse about after beasts so if your brother didn't fancy it I should not blame him," he said with a chuckle.
?
"I went falconing with a friend as a teen, and I swear all that horse riding had my back and legs out of sorts for a week. I think had it been a few hours affair I would've perhaps fancied it better."
?
OOC, Sure I'll roll with Kol. Could be fun.

"I'm afraid my brothers can be rather...well...difficult." Rebekah was far more concerned with what one in particular might do given his tendency toward killing anyone she showed an interest in. Maybe she should prepare him for what might happen so that he would at the very least not be walking into this blind. She could always compel him to forget if he handled it badly. "They tend to enjoy giving potential suitors a hard time."
?
She shook her head once. "No. I'm afraid it isn't. It's more about survival." Giving even that much of an honest answer opened doorways to questions he might not be prepared to handle the answers to. Silently debating on the best way to proceed should he inquire what she meant. "What I wouldn't give for something so normal." She figured he thought his life to be boring and maybe in comparison to her own it could be considered as such but for someone who secretly longed to be human once again and have a family of her own it sounded wonderful.?
?
She turned glancing down the side street he had indicated then briefly to him before looking ahead as they continued down the street. "Perhaps after a good night's rest he will be right as rain." The odd little man one she wasn't particularly fond of given his attitude, in fact, were it not for her growing fondness of Ben he might have been dealt with in a more permanent manner than what she had been entertaining.
?
"What if I were to tell you that things such as vampires, witches, and werewolves were quite real?" Perhaps she was a bit mad for even considering broadening his horizons as it were. Maybe it was best if not another word on the subject was spoken. But on the off chance she was right about him she had to say something. Better to learn now before it was too late.

?
Ben blinked, a mix of curiosity and concern on his face when she spoke of such a dire situation with her family and her life.
?
"So...ur...are you lot spies or something?"
?
He flashed a grin.
"Wait...don't say you'll have to kill me if you tell me. Because I don't need to know anything that badly," he joked.
?
When Rebecca asked her odd question, one he'd have believed to be philosophical if she didn't seem so serious and not at all light hearted, he paused to think. What would he think of knowing vampires werewolves, ETC were real?.
"Well...it's an entirely new way of thinking...I don't know...I...I don't t think I could believe it without proof. And where does one draw the line then as to what is possible? While the mind can be tantalized...by the what if, and all the legends and what happened truly to cause them, musing at a distance, behind the glass s it were is an entirely other matter from full acceptance."
?
He gave a short laugh, expression in the dim light briefly embarrassed.
?
"I'm giving you far more than you asked for, aren't I? Putting far more thought into it than likely required, but...you tend to inspire a man to do his best,"? he complimented, meaning it.
?
"And such conversations of the unknown are always better in the dark like this, aren't they," he added, the thought and its truth just occurring to him.
I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed. I get along with the voices inside of my head.
|
"It's nothing like that." Rebekah only wished it were something of that nature instead of what actually kept them moving from place to place. It would almost make matters simpler as odd as that sounded. She smiled at his joke. Even if her family had killed for a lot less. "I'm afraid it has far more to do with a father who wishes us dead."
?
She supposed there was something about him that left her with a desire to be more upfront about things. Why else would she be admitting to things so often kept secret? "What if I could offer proof?" Somehow it seemed better to 'test the waters' instead of diving right into things. Though their conversation might be cut short if one or all of her brothers were home.
?
"Perhaps more than expected but that's not entirely a bad thing...it means you're at least open to the possibility of such." Maybe it was wishful thinking on her part to think it any indication he would be able to handle having his view of the world changed. Stopping outside an elegant townhouse she turned to him. "Suppose that's why the subject is most often reserved for sitting around a campfire."
?
She decided to risk his meeting her brothers in spite of the concern it caused. "Would you care to come inside? To continue our conversation of course." The latter added to clarify her intentions.?

Ben's eyes widened and he let out a slow breath when she spoke of their father wanting to kill them.
?
"That is...well...shocking...awful...Is he mad?!"
?
He forced himself to remain silent then, as he didn't wish to become a babbling idiot over the thing, jarring though it was of a concept to say the least. Parents should love and protect their children, not...well not whatever was happening to Rebecca and her siblings. He had a sudden mad desire to protect her at the thought, then realized that her brothers were likely ding that better than anyone could, knowing the full situation as they did...but still.
?
?
When she asked what if she could offer him proof of such fantastical things as vampires and werewolves his eyes widened, only half jokingly.
?
"Well I'd look at any proof, of course, though I am not certain what conclusions I would draw," he said honestly.
"It is all just so difficult to imagine.
?
"Of course," he said when she invited him in.
His eyes were eager, expression reflecting his honest level of intrigue over all this. And he had no guesses, no speculations as to what she could possibly say next about her father or the supernatural aspects of which they had spoken...But he did very much wish to know.
?
Kol sat by the fire idly reading a book with half of his attention. It was a history book and it astounded him how much was wrong or simply left out. The wrong bits...were they intentionally misrepresented and glossed over or had people truly lost that much over time? It made him itch to rewrite it just to watch the reactions of those scholars who would come across it, but he knew he'd likely never bother.
?
When Rebecca entered he glanced up casually, expecting to see Klaus with her and stiffening in surprise when it was a stranger instead.
?
"Sister? Has something happened," he questioned, uncertain as to how he would feel about it if it had. It wasn't as if Klaus would be quick to jump were something unfortunate to befall Kol. Not if he had anything better to do.

|
"To him...my siblings and I are abominations that should be wiped out of existence." Rebekah knew that providing such an honest response would inevitably require a much fuller explanation and she was prepared to offer one. It was an odd feeling to be so determined for the first time in centuries to share the truth about who she was with a human. "But I suppose some might consider him mad."
?
She entered the townhouse stepping to one side allowing her 'companion' to do the same then closing the door back behind them. "The story I told you about..." Instantly growing silent upon hearing her brother as she was a bit concerned over how this would go. Waging a silent debate as to how to proceed while deciding to answer his question first. "Nothing that I know of."
?
There was little doubt about Nik's ability to keep himself entertained though if he hadn't returned later on she would likely go looking for him. Lifting one hand in subtle gesture toward the man at her side. "This is Ben." Turning to look at him when she spoke next. "That is my brother Kol."
|
Ben's eyes shot wide when Rebecca shared her father's...overly strong negative and insane sounding view of his children.
?
They hardly seemed like ax murders...But they were inside and he was nodding a greeting to Rebecca's brother, now studying him closer than he may have before just being informed of the father's strong view...either the children were far more wicked than they seemed or the parent was insane. He couldn't think off a reason all the children could've gone so bad...he just couldn't, so was opting or the father having the problem.
?
"It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sir," he told Kol, polite to a fault though the fellow looked a bit younger than he even.
?
"I...My friend and I were on the way to a business dinner and saw your sister walking alone unescorted, so we..."
?
"Fell upon an obviously innocent girl and are now gravely distressed to see that she does indeed have a brotherly protector if a lax one," Kol asked, arching a brow.
?
"I...Of course not. She was just out and seeming to intend to remain thus so we...I that is invited her to dine with us. It was perfectly respectable and I insisted upon walking her home."
?
Ben felt his face flushing and was annoyed by the fact.?
?
?
Kol laughed, though, throwing his hands in the air, then waving negligently?at Ben as he grinned.
?
"Somehow that never gets old," he told Rebecca.
?
Then returning his amused gaze to Ben he said, "Be at ease. I was only making a joke..."
?
Ben felt his shoulders relax as he smiled back then laughed in relief.
?

Rebekah studied his face with her lips parted as if she were on the verge of speaking. It was odd when aside from the expected shock he'd seemed almost...accepting of what she'd revealed about their father though perhaps the interruption prevented anything further. Whatever the reason had been it gave her courage for the conversation she intended to have whether tonight or another time.?
?
It was almost adorable the way he kept tripping over his own words whenever responding to something her brother said. Obviously her brother made him nervous. If not for the certainty that Kol was merely entertaining himself at the poor man's expense instead of genuinely intending harm she would have been far more cross.?
?
"Must you always do that?" Though truthfully she preferred his antics to those of Klaus who would likely get around to far more than simply joking around. But that was a problem for another day since the brother in question hadn't returned home as of yet. "Is Elijah around?" Her last discussion with him was centered on their eldest brother who was being carted around in a coffin with one of those bloody daggers in his chest.?
?
She got angry whenever she thought of it, inwardly shaking off those thoughts, turning to look back to Ben who seemed more relaxed now. "My brothers each have their own ways of dealing with possible suitors."
|
"Of course," Kol replied to Rebecca's question regarding his need to behave in the way he did.
?
?
When she inquired as to the whereabouts of their other brother he gave a careless shrug.
?
?
"Not seem him. Perhaps he's with Klaaus having an adventure. God knows they'd never tell me if they were...or think to include me," he said, muttering the last bit of that under his breath, a brief look of resentment flicking over his handsome youthful features.
?
At Ben's open look of interest, indicating he was paying attention, Kol smoothed his features into a bland mask, unwilling to show more to a stranger or most anyone when it came to that. His resentment and shame were his and not to be the butt of someone's amusement or staring fest.
?
"So...what's he here for," he asked Rebecca dryly, smile widening in satisfaction when the man's expression turned from curious and intrigued to uncomfortable once again.
?
?
"It's just we don't often have visitors," he explained to Ben cryptically.
?
?
Should he say that he understood when he did not, Ben found himself wondering. instead he merely gave Rebecca's brother a polite smile.
?
"Ah," he said, satisfied with the noncommittal response that would not place his foot into his mouth.
?
He watched Rebecca, relaxed to an extent because she did not appear to be uneasy.

“Why am I not surprised?” Rebekah responded with a subtle roll of the eyes. Truthfully, she had expected as much considering how often history had shown their love of tormenting all potential suitors. It was downright infuriating. She looked to Ben briefly before returning her attention to Kol.?
?
One eyebrow lifted at the flicker of resentment she'd witnessed. “Perhaps later we can have an adventure of our own?” If not for company more might have been said on the subject of being left out.?
?
“Merely continuing our conversation about our family history…including the story about how our ancestor was a powerful witch who turned her children into vampires in order to protect them.” She very much doubted her brother would let on it was anything more than a tale passed down through the generations unless he was bored and looking for a bit of fun.?
|
Kol's eyes flickered with interest at rebecca's offer of an adventure in spite of his small inner doubts that she'd always go where ever Klaus wanted her first. He merely gave a slight nod and shrug, like his sister leaving it for later.
?
"Yes she's far more interesting to talk to than any other girl I've met,"Ben said when Rebecca told her brother of the family legends she'd been sharing.
?
"And not afraid of anything...not frightened to walk down the streets of London alone...Still my friend and I were unable to let her do so, never being able to forgive ourselves if someone were to beset her."
?
"Hm. Very kind I'm sure,"Kol said distractedly.
"Where's the friend?"
He gave Rebecca a smirk wondering obviously if she'd had the friend for dinner and caused Ben to forget.
"Oh he went? home," Ben said with a shrug, gaze sliding away, obviously uncomfortable attempting to describe his friend or the other man's at times strange moods.
"Ah I see," Kol said, not truly caring.
?
I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed. I get along with the voices inside of my head.
|
“I suppose it is because I so often grow tired of being what others expect of me.” Rebekah usually made every effort at keeping up appearances in spite of how often doing so became either tedious or frustrating. Perhaps it all stemmed from a sense that she'd been robbed of any chance at having a family of her own.?
?
“To live in fear is not truly living.” She replied not wishing to admit to her fear of their father who devoted his eternal life to ending theirs. It should have ended before it began and were it not for the intervention of Elijah she would have killed their father while he slept a little more than nine centuries ago.?
?
When her brother asked after the friend she looked to him with a light smirk, having very little difficulty guessing what he'd assumed became of the friend. “His friend had his doubts about witches and vampires…seemed rather fond of clinging to science as if it were a security blanket.” Hopefully Kol would take great pleasure in helping to ‘educate’ the odd little man.?
|
Kol grinned, stretching back casually in his chair.
?
"They need their sanity. Science gives them that, Sister," he said almost gently.
?
Ben raised his brows and gave the younger seeming man a curious glance.
?
"They...As if your not one of them," he queried.
?
?
?
Kol grinned again, eyes casually laughing.
"I'm not. I'm no scientist. Just never could bother with the stuff."
?
Ben chuckled, nodding and blushing slightly.
"Ah...Yes...I see...Of course...I don't know what I was thinking."
?
"Spend too much time with Rebecca and you never will,"Kol said laughing outright.
?
"It's odd though...interesting really,"Ben said a little hesitantly, expression going thoughtful.
?
"About my friend...He isn't the sort everyone would consider...normal. It's no affair of mine, of course, but some say he is a bit off...So the fact he's so skeptical is a bit strange if you look at it from that stand point. That is one would expect the odd ones to be more open to such...Not the dull sorts like me."
?
"You're open because your bored,"Kol said, sounding bored himself.
?
"I think that may be it," Ben agreed honestly, nodding.
?
"I like him," Kol said, nodding as well, but at his sister rather than Ben.
?
?

“Honestly…I think they use it to drive the rest of us insane.” Rebekah mused as she gracefully moved to take a seat in an empty chair rather than standing about feeling every bit like some school girl whose father was inspecting her young male suitor. One eyebrow lifted curiously when Ben questioned her brother's comment as it could easily lead to a more honest answer if the mood struck him.
?
“I prefer leaving a bit of mystery to life.” She said of science. Which wasn't to say the vampire found it all that difficult to understand why a person would wish to unravel life's mysteries.?
?
“Now that wouldn't be a compliment, would it?” The blonde asked with one eyebrow raised knowing his statement about her could easily be meant either way and with one of her brothers one could never tell how it was intended.?
?
Her eyes slowly moving from one to the other as the matter of that odd little man and boredom were discussed. There was a brief look of surprise when Kol stated his approval of Ben as she'd honestly expected an entirely different reaction.?
?
“Then you won't mind helping to keep our brothers from doing anything rash?” All too often anyone she took even a remote interest in would be swiftly eliminated by Niklaus.?
|
Kol leaned back in his chair and chuckled at his sister's request.
?
"Perhaps you have lost hour mind while you were out, Sister?"
He arched a brow.
?
"Or perhaps it's your memory that's flown the coop. When have I ever been able to control or influence Klaus?"
?
He flicked an amused glance to Ben.
?
"My sister has a funny way of showing a guy interest...She tends to get him killed off by our older brother."
?
Ben, obviously taking this for a metaphorical joke laughed.
?
"I'm sure it shall be alright. You are here, after all, so he will know that nothing inappropriate happened. And I think if a fellow is honest and friendly, it goes a long way with others."
?
"Don't say I didn't warn you," Kol said with a shrug.
?
Grinning at Rebecca he added,"Or...We could just all take off on that adventure now? Could be safer for your new...friend."
I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed. I get along with the voices inside of my head.
|
“What I meant was something more along the lines of helping in my attempts at preventing his more rash actions.” Rebekah didn't truly believe anything could keep their older brother from carrying out such actions as never once in the past had he ever simply allowed her a bit of happiness.?
?
Her expression darkened if only for a moment at the memory of the years she'd spent daggered because she dared to love Marcel. “Trust me, dear brother, there is very little that I have forgotten.” Countless times through the centuries he had done things which he claimed were for their own good when really it all boiled down to fear…the fear of being left utterly alone in the world.?
?
Inclining her head briefly as she stared at her brother with one eyebrow arched just so. “It is not my doing.” The blonde said of Nik’s more violent tendencies toward all potential suitors. “I have never once been able to influence his decision on the matter in spite of my numerous pleas.”
?
As much as she would have preferred to ease into this conversation…to lay the proper groundwork…there simply might not be enough time to do so. Perhaps Kol was correct in suggesting that they take Ben with them on their ‘little adventure’.?
?
Casting a sidelong glance in her brother’s direction hoping he would offer the necessary assistance should it be required. With a heavy sigh, she turned looking to Ben curious to know whether he would be able to handle discovering the ‘old family legend’ was indeed reality.
?
“What I told you earlier this evening about our family history…” Rebekah began while already prepared to take action within an instant if necessary. “It wasn't our ancestors…it was us…our mother used magic to protect us from death…” She let that thought hang there a moment then finished. “nine hundred years ago.”
|
OOC, Hehe, thinking of the game never have I ever, and Klaus can say never have I ever allowed Rebecca to be happy. LOL!

?
Kol watched with a detached curiosity, still lounging in his chair as Rebecca broke the news to Ben. He'd never witnessed it being done in person before, so this was...new. And for a vampire as old as their family, new was...strangely refreshing, no matter the form it took.
?
Ben chuckled.
?
"That's a good one, but I"m not that easy to fool," he told Rebecca.
?
With another chuckle he added,"But I can play along...and lets see...I'm Jack the Ripper..."
?
No matter he'd have still been a boy at the time, it was a joke to match hers.
?
"As you aren't a lady of the night, you're safe, though," he said with a mock leer.
?
He did like a girl with a creative mind, and she was entertaining and kept him on his mental toes as it were, a thing he very much appreciated in its rarity.
?
?

Rebekah tipped her head to one side as she cast a sidelong glance in the direction of her brother. It was no surprise that he appeared content with his role as spectator, no doubt curious as to what the man's reaction to learning the truth would be. “I’m afraid he would be more than a little out of his depth when dealing with me.” She said with a light smirk of ‘Jack the Ripper’.
?
Her thoughts going toward possible actions to prove this was no joke without completely terrifying the poor man. Something told her this would most likely either end with his being compelled or worse case scenario her brother would decide the quickest and easiest way to solve the problem was killing Ben.?
?
“I shall have to prove my words true then I suppose.” Making certain she had his undivided attention before within the blink of an eye she was standing across the room near a desk where she lingered for several seconds so it would register that she had indeed moved before with the same speed retaking her seat.
?
Slowly lifting each hand for the first time revealing the fancy silver letter opener she had grabbed from the desk seconds before. “Watch.” She instructed using it to slice open her palm which bleed for a few short seconds before the wound fully healed as though it never happened.
?
She studied his face a moment as her eyes changed to a deep red…the veins around them becoming more visible and her lips parted to reveal descending fangs. Both returning to normal once she was certain he noticed the difference so as not to frighten him any more than necessary.?
|
Kol's expression was relaxed and entertained, as though watching a show put on strictly for his benefit as he lounged back in the chair.
?
Ben stared and smiled slightly when Rebecca moved rapidly from one place to another.
?
"Ah...I'm betting one of those floor board tricks, something rigged under the floor to move the board rapidly, yes?"
?
He was interested and pleased with himself for what he considered to be a very educated guess if not an accurate one. At least he would not appear the gullible fool to this sharp young lady. The thought along with all color drained from his face as she cut her palm. Leaning forward he studied the wound closing in fascination.
?
He made a small sound of incredulity, then his eyes widened at sight of her fangs. Kol remained still, though Ben did flick a quick glance to him. Kol only smiled and arched his brows.
?
"I could slit my throat but I think I'd need to be paid for that," he drawled, looking from Ben to Rebecca.
?
"I don't...think that shall be necessary," Ben said, voice shaking slightly as his gaze returned once more to Rebecca's healed hand.
?
"So...How much of the old legends are true...what else is real," he asked, numb shock taking him over yet his curiosity still managing to peak forth like a turtle from its shell.
?
"I'd like to see Renfieldd try to explain this one," he said with a short laugh, not sure why his friend had come to mind at that particular moment save for the fact that he would love an explanation himself so as not to look the complete fool if this were indeed some joke, but for the life of him he couldn't find one.
?
"What...else can you do," he found himself asking.
?
"And you aren't going to eat me are you? I mean...that is I did look after you this evening...Even though it appears you didn't need that at all."
?
How was he so calm, and even smiling a little, some distant part of his mind wondered. Would he become frightened soon? No.He thought not. Not unless, of course, they did decide that yes they were going to have him for dinner...

“I believe that response is what one would call…denial.” Rebekah said of theories about so-called ‘floorboard tricks’ though she supposed it were possible someone claiming themselves to be a magician might well make use of a trick like that. “But if you wish to check the floorboards then by all means have at.”
?
She watched in silence giving him the time to work through her little revelation while being prepared to act at a moments notice should the need to compel him arise. “And the next thing I know you will be running off to join one of those ‘freak shows’ as their star attraction.” Her gaze flicking over at her brother as those words were spoken at his comment about his slitting his own throat.
?
Tipping her head to the side as her focus returned to Ben, giving his question some thought before providing a response. “Witches and werewolves are also quite real.” He was handling the news rather well, almost surprisingly so. At his mention of the odd little man whom they had parted company with earlier in the evening she glanced to her brother.
?
“We can erase or alter memories…use a form of mind control that we call compulsion to get others to do as we wish. The blood of a vampire can heal an injured person though if they were to die with it in their system then they will wake in transition which can only be completed by drinking human blood. If the person doesn't then eventually they die again…for good this time.”
?
She would share more if he chose to be turned but for the time being only select bits of information were going to be revealed. “My siblings and I are the first of our kind though there are other breeds of vampires out there. But as the Originals we are capable of even compelling ‘ordinary’ ones.”
?
Chuckling softly a moment. “No, we are not going to ‘eat you’.” She knew that perhaps it might help to offer a bit of an explanation as to why he’d been told all of this, but she honestly didn't know how to word it without being rather blunt.?
