Dreams and Nightmares, tag Mary, Henry, Rena, Leti ETC

?
Not wishing to cause scandal by being seen out at another pub, at least without a disguise, Henry, Rena and Leti took a cab home.? Rena was still unaccustom to the horses, feeling that things passed by the darkened window so slowly as she stared out into the darkness.
"It must be nice to see in the dark," Leti half whispered when they stepped from the cab at Henry's.
She scrambled down unassisted while Henry swung Rena down by her waist.
"Are you hungry," Rena asked Henry with a wide smile as they headed inside."It's late," Leti protested and Rena only shrugged.

After watching Finn and Reina leaving until she could see them no more, merry quickly busied herself with cleaning, making sure that every nook and cranny in the living room, kitchen and den was?spotless. ?She also prepared snacks, just in case the master and mistress wanted them. If they wanted them, it would be well and good, but if not, she?supposed that she and Pool could either eat them, as well as share them with the other servants. It would not do to be found idle, even at this late hour.

Something distant caught Mary‘s eyes from a window, and she watched it as it grew closer. She could also hear the approaching sound of horses hooves, telling her that the master and mistress would be home soon. ?A quick look only moments later told her that her guess had been indeed correct. She quickly hurried to tell Pool.

The doctor and mistress are home, she informed him, to which he nodded, and replied, well. This was no mere?term of disregard, he meant that it was indeed well that they were safely?home. ?He would watch as they approached, and upon their arrival, would politely open the door, allowing them entrance as he greeted, good evening, Doctor, mistress, ma’am…, He would bow to all in kind?as he greeted them. ?If this were the season for coats and jackets, he would receive them from each person, placing them on hangers out of the way, not readily seen, but easily accessed when it was time for any guests to leave.

If the weather were such that a fire was necessary, Mary would stoke it, making certain that it was plenty warm enough. If not, she would be found in the kitchen, preparing those little sandwiches for which she had quickly acquired a certain amount of fame around the house. She would also have crackers, cheese, and a moderate size veggie tray with dip. ?Sandwich choices consisted of beef, chicken salad, veal, turkey, or ham salad, along with little sweet and dill pickles, and deviled eggs. ?The beverages would consist of hot tea, hot coffee, as well as plenty of the nonalcoholic punch on hand, along with champagne or wine. ?She made the job of preparing the snacks seen far more pleasant to her self by imagining preparing them for the doctor without, the mistress, or even better, she thought, I wonder what Finn, would think of the spread? She did?not voice this?of course, but pondered it in her own mind as she worked.

Henry studied the face of the cab driver for the few seconds he was allowed the luxury. He did not know most of them, and never felt put off by such, but from time to time, some of them would spark his curiosity.

Learning their faces, only when they were worthy, when something about them seemed oddly unusual, made him feel more alert somehow, better prepared for what was to come.

At times he suspected that what was to come was the Royal Agency interfering?with his plans by substituting their people for regular ones. Last time, the bloke presented him with a strange sounding name, Belvis, without being asked, and acted too nice. Yes, people could be nice when they were not smart, cab drivers on the other hand were not known for unlikely such sensibilities
?
At least?most times, including this occasion, that was?not a consideration. Even so, he did not wish too loosen his grip on awareness and be caught unprepared, that was the one thing he could not afford.
?
Stepping off?and paying attention to his surroundings, without being obvious about it, Henry was going to agree with Leticia that indeed, seeing in the dark spared one some pain of stumbling into obstacles, but Rena's question presented him with a more intriguing proposition, forcing him to wickedly answer affirmatively. Hunger was the one necessary?stimulus to get?a refined being like himself,?going, after all.?
?
"Hello Poole, how splendid to be home again," Henry happily greeted, and in this instance he finally spoke the truth. Being home, surrounded by proper companions at least, was positively charming.

Rena smiled a warm greeting at Poole and asked for the food mentioned to be put out in the dining room. She wondered if Henry would prefer a late night snack in the library instead, but either way servants had to bring it so if they weren't in the middle of work, the dining room was likely the best place.
?
For her part, Leti had a hard time not grasping at her own skirts for something to do with her hands. She as suddenly nervous with her place in this home, and what would be thought of her, and what she are say...But no. She was just Dr. Henry's new assistant, and that was that.? He would handle it as he saw fit?and until they were alone she would keep her mouth shut.? As he had done outside when she was too preoccupied with her own growing sense of nervousness to pay mind, she looked around with avid interest. She carefully studied her surroundings and Poole, and Rena and Henry as well, for their reactions and moods should be hers. She took cues from them on how relaxed to be or not until she had her own feel for this place.

Pool returned Renas smile with an equally warm one of his own. It shall be as you say, mistress, he replied, giving a slight bow, and favoring the guest in the home with a slight smile. Welcome to you ma’am, he told her.? He thought of her still as a guest, not knowing that she was the doctors new assistant.

He would await a response from her or anyone else, before bowing once more, then turning to walk away, to inform Mary to place the snacks in the dining room. Of course he himself would also assist with this.

Mary was only moments away from being done with the cooking, so that the snacks were hot, and fresh. Soon, the servants would be noticed, bringing?the food in the dining room, as the butler stepped in to inform, master, mistress, and to you as well ma’am, there are refreshments for you in the dining room, they await you.

As Mary dutifully set the table, she pretended to take no notice of the doctor, as she usually did. Instead, she seemed to notice each person individually, and as part of the group, as they came into the dining room. This of course, was assuming that they came right away while she was still setting the table. For her part, Mary was attentive enough, but her mind was on…, Someone else for a change, someone other than the doctor. ?Both of the working servants would await further instructions, but if nothing more was needed, they would simply bow, and quietly withdraw from the room.

God loves you.

Somewhere between the initial greetings and the instructions about the food, Pool Had heard the doctor reply to his greeting, and comment how splendid it was to be home again. Absolutely sir, and may I say that it is most positively intriguing and wonderful to have you and yours safely home once more.

Rena flashed an odd look to Poole when he spoke of it being intriguing to have them back home once more.

"Did something happen," she asked, voice concerned as she took a step closer to the butler.

It appeared they were learning from Dr. Henry's paranoia, Leti thought, her gaze moving from the man in question to Rena then to the elder butler.

Then she glanced about the room itself, taking in that nothing seemed to be out of order at least.? Whatever it was, if something had come up, she would help to deal, that was one reason she was here, and no time like the present to begin, she supposed.

It served to take her mind from the fact she had been feeling very nervous upon first entering.? Being so new, she knew everyone would have questions, but as someone supposedly stationed above the servants she knew it would not be her job to explain.

Pool’s expression did not change; he looked calm as ever, as he slowly shook his head. Nothing of which I am aware, mistress, he replied.

As far as the Butler was concerned, Mary‘s private life was her own, and he had noticed nothing dangerous or harmful about the two that had stopped by earlier to speak with her. He had not listened in on the conversation, as such would be quite rude. He knew Mary sometimes did this, but that was on her, he was much older, and did not have to behave himself in such a juvenile?manner. ?He reasoned within his mind that Mary, was very young, but she was after all a grown-up woman, having come to years. If she had prospective suitors seeking her affections, well, Pool supposed this was quite normal. And if Mary already had someone in her life that was special to her, it was certainly not his job to inform about this, even had he known, or even suspected such things. ?To even suggest such things could?get The poor girl in trouble, and whatever mischief she had caused in the past, Pool figured she certainly did not deserve to lose her job over it.

For his own part, the Butler hoped that such was the case, for a new distraction in her life could cause Mary’s attentions to turn away from the object of her current affections. ?If the young man could, turn her love around, as it were, he could unknowingly save a world of trouble between Mary and the mistress. The last thing the elderly Butler wanted to be associated with, was a tangle between two women over one man. ?Pool seemed to intuitively sense that such an altercation would be more than a simple tangle; there would be a killing, and the Butler knew, somehow, that it would not be the mistress who lost her life in such a fight.

The butler could sense growing tensions between Reena and Mary, which we’re not exhibited elsewhere in the household. He made up his mind that, if he were ever in a situation of counseling Mary over what to do, and which one she should choose, he would tell her to do the wise thing…, Forget the doctor, and run into the arms of her suitor.?Except his affections, and any proposal of marriage he might offer, And let him carry her away from there. ?He would even break her heart, if necessary, by telling her that, while she was quite an attractive young lady, she had absolutely no chance with the doctor, that her best course of action would be to forget him, and seek her love and solace elsewhere.

But Pool hoped it wouldn’t come down to that, he hoped that things would take their natural course, that nature itself, would guide young Mary into the arms of another love, causing her to abandon the doctor. ?he idly wondered whether or not the mistress, might help with such an endeavor. Would she in fact, assist in luring?Mary away from the doctor, and toward another love? Pool didn’t know, but he suppose she probably would, and if it came down to it, he would not be above discreetly asking for such assistance.

God loves you.

Rena didn't bother to hide the relief n her face at Poole's answer.

"Good...Very good," She smiled, relaxing.

The red head hoovering behind her studied Poole watchfully, though, and she hadn't smiled.? She instead looked susceptible as she flashed a look to Dr. Henry who was probably more bloody concerned over food than his house hold affairs.? Had he not spoken of his notes being tampered with, though?? Poole had remained studied and calm, not changing expression at Rena's question. Leti believed he should've been and looked surprised to have been asked so what was he hiding?? Or was she merely paranoid...losing her own mind what with trying to watch for supposed attacks around every corner?? Had she gotten in over her head? Was she about to be part of the problem with her suspicions rather than the help Rena and Henry expected?

She briefly closed her eyes, drawing in a breath and letting it out.? When she opened her eyes, Rena had come to stand beside her, a slight look of concern on her face. Grateful for the other woman's supportive closeness, Les forced a smile, and gave a slight shrug.

She'd mention it later to them if there was time, and she would make careful note that she could very well be wrong. She knew Poole not at all. She knew high class servants not at all. Yes, perhaps they weren't ever supposed to change expression. What a fool she must eem knowing so little of such things.

Pool nodded to Renas assessment of the situation, feeling relieved?as she did. Yes indeed, he replied,?to what she had said.

But he carefully studied Letti?out of the corner of one eye, she was not so quick to believe that everything was truly OK. After all, the Butler reasoned within himself, what could possibly go wrong? So Mary had a visitor, people had visitors a lot. Being a servant and a worker for them should not make her unable to have visitors; she lived there in the house, and there was no reason to expect that someone couldn’t come to see her.

There was still nothing in the Butler’s expression that showed the slightest hint of dissimulation. As far as he was concerned, none of this was a lie; nothing was truly wrong, at least so far as he knew. ?He did, idly?wonder about the woman that was with the visitor, but the man had treated her more as an associate, rather than someone who was more significant in his life. ?Mary had no chance of getting the doctor, and Pool knew it. He also suspected that her supposed love for the doctor was nothing more than misplaced affection, affection and feelings that should go to someone that was more suited for her, feelings that would never be requited. He thought to himself that it was up to him to save her from such agony.

After quickly surveying the table and surroundings to make sure everything was indeed in place, Pool’s eyes went to each person in turn, as he inquired:

Will there be anything else at this time? Doctor? Mistress? Ma’am?
