"Yes, that is true. I can observe, only I get bored easily. My patients are pretty ordinary as a rule, and they shine compared to some other crowds. Observation has to be fueled by some interest, I think. I am not so sure you are right in regards to my hatreds though. I cannot recall a single one of them. Whoever they are, they must have blended quite as easily in my memory as those whose routine leaves me indifferent."
?
Noticing with some surprise that the conversation somehow drifted towards the plague, Henry found himself frowning. "Well, Lady Rena is mostly correct. We are the product of the rational age, and the plague should not be able to return. There are substitutes perhaps, as the unfortunates are better acquainted with. I am sure they would rather be cured of any malady. That is only natural. But comparing the numbers now and then, the dire consequences of being ravage by a plague, I think we could be said to be luckier than our forefathers," Dr Hyde slowly mused.

Victor smiled at Reena and nodded, giving her an understanding look as he replied¡ Ah yes, the black plague, worthy of its name it is, truly a hideous monster that one was; and I believe you're right, it likely will not occur again. ?His eyes followed toward the man that Rena indicated, I dare not even guess what might be the case with him, he replied; it could be something truly serious, and yet it could be something as trivial as¡ Not getting quite enough of the sun. ?He nodded to Leti's ?statement and replied, indeed¡ A most unpleasant nest in which to settle one's thoughts. He crossed his arms as she did, looking at Rena, wondering if she would do likewise.

"Oh no I meant...I know it sounds silly." Rena stumbled over her words.
"I don't even know why I said it...Something I was thinking about. I meant the black plague...you know, the one that first showed its ugly face in the 1400s, then again in the 1600's...long before our time."
?
At least she could speak honestly.
?
"I don't think such would happen again."
?
Her gaze slid to the ill looking blond man and away again.
?
"I just...I wondered what was wrong with him, perhaps. I perhaps worry of catching something..."
?
Damn she was drunk! She'd forgotten her immune system. It was most excellent. Still the fear of catching something and not having antibiotics or a good hospital or her mother and grand father...At least there was running water...That was something. And flushing toilets. The thought made her smile and she reached for the watered down whisky Leti had brought before returning to her pie.
?
"Plagues is awful things to think on,"Leti said with a shudder, crossing her arms.

Victor had thoughtfully smiled at Henry's earlier comment about him having brilliance of his own, and had wondered to himself¡ Was the man trying to flatter him? Was he bating him for something? Or perhaps, was he being sincere? ?He was now listening and observing, being far more fond and comfortable with this, as opposed to being the excessive talker. ? He couldn't help feeling that¡ Things were not entirely what they seemed, and that he was possibly on the edge of something exciting, something maybe even dangerous. ?His hackles were up as it were, and he could find no good reason for this being so, then again maybe there was a plethora of reasons; perhaps it was that he was hungrier than he was accustomed to being, perhaps it was being in the presence of a young beautiful girl such as Rena, for that matter, Leti... Was not bad looking either, and would be a fair choice in so far as women went. ?Perhaps it is simply that I have had more alcohol this evening than I am accustomed to having, he thought to himself, but then a more ominous thought came to him. Perhaps the reason he was so frightened as it were when their seemed no reason to be, had to do with his recent failures in the lab¡ That is to say, his failure to bring Elizabeth back to life. His thought about Elizabeth seemed the perfect prelude to what Rena now said about the plague being overwith. ?He looked at her curiously, studying her as if she were now one of his lab rats; could she see the future somehow? Did she practice magic? ?The whole idea made Victor uncomfortable, seeing as how he was not a man of magic, but clearly a man of science. ?But then he studied her expressions¡ Her actions, how she sat on Henry's lap, how she seem so pleasantly intoxicated¡ He told himself, that she was happily drunk, and drunkenly hopeful. ?It has¡ To be the alcohol, he told himself that or¡ Whatever strange illness she has. Allowed, he stated, awe, but Miss Rena¡ How I do admire your hopeful optimism concerning this matter of the plague; for we are often so in trapped by the present, that we cannot see the freedom of what may be yet to be.???

God loves you.

Leti flushed but smiled, gaze briefly startled and surprised, but she recovered quickly enough.
?
"No...Not working for the queen I"m afraid," she chuckled.

"But I am observant...You learn to be...If you wanta keep safe," she found herself telling Henry honestly.
?
"But it seems you are observant yourself when you want ta be," she added thoughtfully.
?
When he spoke of only remembering the names of the few people he liked Leti laughed outright.
?

"I see you, Sir. I bet you recall the names of those you hate just as well...keep em marked down in yur mind, you do, until you can..."
?
She shook her head and chuckled again, leaving the sentence unfinished save for a shrug.
?
Rena was eating her tart, still seated on Henry's lap, expression thoughtful and distracted as her tipsy mind went from pondering the current situation to the tart itself style of cooking she never assumed to experience...not when it was well over 100 years before her own birth.
?
She was here with Henry, though, and thus safe. He wanted her as he always id...they were as they always were no matter what hame he wore or what skin...Hyde as it were. The covering was just that and under he was her man.
?
"Well," she said brightly.
"At least there is no plague in this time. At least that's all over."
?
Shit she'd been thinking aloud! Speaking as a historian not as one in their own time. But she was drunk and could get away with it.
?
"Just...the man over there, so thin, looks like he could be a plague victim, considering his manner of dress is reminiscent of those times as well somehow," she said, speaking truthfully as she nodded to an over thin sallow faced blond man in the corner talking to a pretty dark haired girl.

"That was a good choice on your part," Henry complimented, as he saw another customer partaking of the delightfully looking dessert?Leti had named. "Yes, we are...different probably, than many," Henry admitted, dubiously including himself in the statement as well as Rena.
?
He would have considered?his words to be presumptuous earlier on in the evening, but now that he was tipsy, they seemed just right even to describe the young lady he barely knew. ?"You observe well,?you wouldn't happen to be the agent of her Majesty's government, would you?" Hyde uncharacteristically quipped with Leti, feeling strangely light hearted. "Ah yes, I am good with names, at least belonging to people I do not hate. There are only a few," Henry clarified with a smile even he could have found mysterious, had it not originated with himself.
?
"No, you are really wise," Henry suddenly turned to Rena, his eyes almost glazing with the memory of how she made him fell, and anticipation of what she would make him feel just yet. Leti was certainly right to consider Rena at least to be different. He doubted the same consideration applied to himself on his own, but Rena and her antics, did make him feel strange, act not like himself. Perhaps that was what drew the barmaid's attention in the first place. It was reckless, it was unwise, but he could not bring himself to object to Rena's easy affection. He wanted that young lady for himself, and wanted her very badly.

Leti smiled at Victor then nodded quickly.
?
"Yes, Sir. You could deal with a bit more eaten' it seems. I'll be right back with that."
?
She hurried off.
?
?
"A small party is best when speaking of matters that some others, even those of educated minds, may not properly understand or be open to,"Rena explained, giving Victor a small smile, from one knowledgeable person to another.
"So it is with more complex matters of science, is it not?"
?
Leti was back then with a leave tray. All 3 drinks were refilled and with Victor'ss bowl there were 3 slices of apple tart.
?
"I went ahead and decided for you about the dessert," Leti said, giving Henry a cheeky grin.
"You could do with some more food in you too, if for a different reason."
?
Placing the tray down she added to Henry and Rena, "Half price on these last drinks as they're watered down. I did want the 2 of you to be able to walk out of here."
?
She smiled again, shrugging and giving a chuckle.
?
"I've frankly never seen a couple like the 2 of you...at least not among the higher classes. They're so uppity and never seem to have any effecting to show...While the 2 of you go out together and take the town!"
?
She laughed.
?
"It's a true wonder, it is."
?
Rena's eyes softened as she turned to gaze up at Henry, placing one small hand over his larger one briefly.
?
"When 2 people are good together, they tend to be more as one. They do things together they wouldn't do apart."
?
Thinking of what she'd suggested to Henry about the old man, she winked before turning back to Leti.
"And thank you for the dessert. It was very kind of you. Thoughtful."
?
"Ah it's the least I could do..."
?
Leti dropped her gaze and blushed, thinking what a wonder it was to have been invited to the party. To such a party when she'd never expected to see into a house of the sort the handsome?doctor likely called home. Handsome indeed but cold and dangerous though most people likely found him charming and kind. He was polite to her and she could tell it was honestly meant so for some odd reason his personality set her at ease because it was more real somehow. Real if fascinating.

Well, if you aren't inviting anyone else save just the three of us, that should shorten the needed?preparation time, should it ?not? ?Victor looked to Henry, but the question was for whom ever cared to answer it. ?His brows came up in mild interest as Rena was speaking to Letty¡ Something about fashion, obviously a woman thing, so Victor glanced away, as he also did when Rena leaned her head on Henry's chest. ?He would never admit it of course, but Victor had felt some Indy for Henry at first, wondering what his secret was, how he could be such a charmer in drawing Rena to him, especially since he really had not done anything. He hadn't even had to fight the old man, and he had done nothing else to make any other play for her. He had mildly regretted not having the time to question Henry more about his seeming acquaintance with Rena, now he found he was rapidly losing interest in all prospects of ever having her for himself. She had made her choice, and the choice had clearly not¡ Been in his favor. ?He wasn't even sure he had wanted her to choose him; sure, it would have helped his ego considerably, but it would have put him in an even deeper dilemma as to what to do, whether to move forward with his life in that area, or to continue working¡ Hoping, that his dear Elizabeth would eventually come to life, and be his once more. ?He couldn't help speculating how it was that Henry¡ Had such a positive effect on this particular young woman; he had not noticed any other women of the same age, any women at all for that matter, looking at Henry over one time if that. Not that he had been actively trying to notice, but Henry didn't exactly seem to have women lined up at the table to talk with him. ?To his logically thinking mind, this could mean either one of two, if not both things, either she was quite ill, slowly losing her mind and did not know it, or¡ And admittedly this second one seemed to be the more logical possibility to him, they have known each other before this night; it has to be, it's the only way, he decided. ? He noted with satisfaction that¡ She seemed quite in control of her senses and every matter except for this man; that has to be it, he told himself and, if she indeed had known Henry from a previous acquaintance, then he really had no need to be threatened by Henry, did he? He decided that he didn't, and let The matter rest at that. He sighed, oh well¡ He thought to himself, just another experiment that had failed before it had begun, the perfect body, looking so at least, but having a hand to far decayed, a missing toe, or some such deformity making it unsuitable to use for creating life; he would be friends with both of them in so much as was possible, but he decided if¡ He were to move forward with his life, it would not¡ Be with Rena. ?His musings were interrupted, and came to an abrupt halt, when Leti offered more drinks, and the like. ?He rather liked the way she brightened when she spoke of apple tart; the apple tart sounds most pleasing, he told her, I'm certain I will be having some of that, but¡ Could I first trouble you for a refill on my drink and, perhaps another half a bowl of stew? ?He was normally quite satisfied with one bowl, but this particular night, he realized he had not been eating quite the way he should, too much work, and not enough sustenance. ?I normally do not trouble anyone or take the time for seconds, but perhaps I am¡ Hungrier than I thought; his own words sank into his heart, and he realized¡ Yes, he was indeed, hungrier¡ Than he had thought.?

God loves you.

As they were in danger and may need help, would 3 days be too late? Then again, Rena reminded herself, she did have to talk to Henry, to discover what had been happening strangely on his end, and to tell him of hers...and hope he believed her. She had some proof, and he should be open minded, but it was still frightening considering she?hadn't believe in time travel until it had apparently somehow happened to her today.
?
?
"Yes, Henry is wise," she said with a smile.
?

"It shall be the most interesting dinner party ever and I like smaller parties. Makes it all more personal."

She looked to Leti.

"That fashion talk we were having...I'd like to finish it later, but please don't mention it to anyone else...it's a personal matter I am afraid."
?
Leti looked confused but nodded.
?
"Yes Ma'am. Of course..."
?
Though the matter of the dress did draw and fascinate her, her mind was also scrambling over the problem of how she would get herself a dress suitable to attending a well established and respected doctor's dinner party. It was a small party so obviously casual. Even the likes of her could discern that. But she should surely wear something nicer than what she already had. She would have to delve into her small savings and even ask her brother for a lone. Hopefully he would have enough to spare.
?
She w as snapped from her pondering when Doctor Henry asked if her name was indeed Leti.
?
Nodding quickly she smiled.
?
"Yes Sir it is. You have a good memory for such things...things most people wouldn't bother rememberin," she complimented with an embarrassed smile.
?
Rena pushed her bowl aside and leaned her back against Henry's warm solid chest. She wanted to drop her head onto his shoulder. So very drunk she was, but if she relaxed, it would be harder to energize again later and she had plans for Henry before they went to sleep.
?
"Can I bring anyone anything else? More stew or dessert or drinks? We've apple tart tonight," Leti said brightly.

"Well yes," Henry admitted in response to Rena's reassurance. He could remember better days, when he had multiple parties, a few in his own house, many more outside. Alas, these parties were too boring and opened way to...uncharitable actions on his part. He was wise to stop them before they got out of hand. "You are most perceptive to deduce that I could be easily bored, my Lady," Henry gallantly agreed and then lazily blinked at Leti.
?
"A party, that hour, ah yes, what he said, three evenings shall give my poor Poole an opportunity to plan ahead. And you to prepare your evening attire Leti, it is Leti, isn't it," Henry wondered, his mind beginning to work a bit clearer, while his tongue seemingly entangled in itself. It was fortunate that Victor's suggestion saved the day then, because otherwise, he might have difficulties answering such a simple question on his own.
?
"See, you have brilliance of your own," Henry smiled back at Victor, beginning to appreciate him anew.

Victor's chuckle at Rena's comment was not excessively deep, as his voice had a definite tone of youth to it, but the chuckle was still warm and rich.? "True enough, I suppose," he admitted with a nod when she said that he had his chance and added, my good fellow.? He smiled at Leti as she bobbed her head, thinking to himself that she did...have a nice smile.? No, she wasn't like Rena but...well, he wondered to himself if he liked Rena so much because she was in such need, and he might have a chance to help?? Was this a sign that he should at least consider, moving forward with his life?? Leti seemed pretty enough to him, independant, intelligent, and interested apparently in science, as he was, but was it fair to consider anyone...while he was still working to bring?Elizabeth back?? He watched her hurry away to serve some other customer, a part of him wanting to say a word or two to the owner about giving his best worker a chance to catch her breath.? But the near tussle of mere moments before served as a rather unpleasant reminder of what could occur when one stuck his nose where it did not belong.
?
He looked from Rena to Henry when she asked if any evening would be good enough.? "Well, I think it only fair and a matter of courtesy that we give our gracious host...plenty of time to prepare, therefore...what say you to...three evenings from the present?? Is that good for the both of you?"? His questioning gaze went once more from Rena to Henry.

"I did keep asking you when you were going to meet with us and where,"Rena told Victor with a laugh.
?
"You had your chance, my good fellow."
?
She'd prevented herself from saying dude' instead by a hair's breath. Still she was nearly boastfully proud of herself for doing such a bang up job of speaking properly as it were considering the shock and stress and drink...all the factors and she was still awesome. Of course being brilliant didn't hurt. Normally she didn't t think about her IQ one way or the other, simply taking it for what it was, running in the family as it were, but damned if it wasn't helping her out today.
?
"That she did,"Leti agreed, her easy smile and friendly good cheer returning for the moment as she smiled at Victor and bobbed her head in agreement.
?
?
She knew she should feel uncomfortable at being invited to such a party rather than p aid to serve at one, but at the moment she just couldn't. She w as too excited by the topics and the company for it was very odd and a girl became very bored with the same sorts in and out and none worth much to her mind. The fact neither man was romantically inclined helped a lot as well. She didn't have to feel protective of herself in such company and as such could stop thinking of herself and focus on the fascinating external goings on.
?
?
"Is any day good for you, then,"Rena asked Victor.

"Or any night, rather as it is a dinner party."
?
She chuckled.

Victor smiled in Henry's direction, once more back to his friendly, if not somewhat easily frightened...self.? He was relieved that, at least for now, the escolating situation had apparently?lost ?momentum, and things were back to normal, although he couldn't help wondering what he would have done in the same situation as that fellow.? He glanced casually to the table where said fellow was still sitting, sipping at what was by now no doubt a watered-down drink, and looking dejected.? It seemed that all the fire had gone out of the old gent, and Victor hoped that Henry would be content to simply leave him alone, unless he made further trouble.? He turned back to regard Henry when he agreed with the dinner party idea.? He took a long draft from his glass before nodding and saying, "Indeed a most excellent idea, Miss Rena, "I suppose my only regret is that I...didn't conceive such a moment of brilliance."? He smiled at both of them, showing that even he...could have a sense of humor and tease a bit, especially when his blood-alcohol level was somewhat increased from that to which he was accustomed.? Not that he felt exactly falling-down drunk, but the good meal, reasonably good company, coupled with the alcohol, had him feeling definitely more lively than he had felt mere moments ago in the lab.? This being the case, he wondered if perhaps, he needed a break from it all, maybe he was trying too hard, and maybe he was too close to it.? Maybe her soul had indeed found a better resting place, and was too far away to be reached by comparatively meager efforts as those of whatever fates and higher powers existed, to keep her...out of the world of the living.? He wondered if he could, or should even think about...being with someone else, while still working to bring Elizabeth back to life.? Ah well perhaps now was not the time to consider such weighty matters, he decided, as he made a strong attempt to push such thoughts from his mind, in favor of thinking more about them at a later time.

Rena grinned over her shoulder at Henry.
?
"Well you have dinner parties for your old friends sometimes and go to theirs...And are bored half the time...this one will be on your term so private, and will be new and interesting. Intelligent company who could be open to scientific exploration."
?
She turned back to her stew with another cheerful smile.
Not the dinner party sort either, she did feel this one should be useful and being at Hyde's home private which was important for such things.
?
"Well...What day, Sir," Leti asked, still hardly able to believe the man hadn't objected to her coming.
?
"The sooner the better couldn't hurt...In case we should need help," Rena found herself speaking up, another serge of worry filling her at the fact she had no idea how she was here or why and not to mention the unknown that Henry himself had experienced today. She would find about that soon enough...and she'd have to share her own...if he didn't believe her she didn't know what she would do.
?
Glancing at Leti, she noted the worry in the other woman's eyes. Seeing her dress hadn't been good. Rena had attempted to avoid it and hadn't expected the bar maid to take her cloak. The thought caused her to put down her spoon and tighten it around her even though it was wrapped well at present.

"Ah yes of course," Henry responded nonchalantly?to Victor's admonition. He used that kind of tone with his patients and when he was asked if he liked the London weather. Perhaps, he would have meant his statement more? had Rena not offered him a viable alternative he had not considered. "Now that?is a mar-velous idea,"?Hyde exclaimed, struggling only a little to get his message through.
?
"A dinner party?" Henry wondered incredulously, not entirely seeing the benefit of one, but not?wishing to contradict the lady who captured his imagination. "Why of course, a wonderful idea," he spoke, trying to sound more enthusiastic and less dubious, but hoping that?the amount of alcohol ingested could serve as a plausible excuse. ?

"You know," Mina said wonderingly.
"I never thought of strangers one way or the other...as to if they would be kind...or understand. I suppose when one is mired in a situation, it is difficult to believe anyone shall understand...But you've just proven me wrong it seems," she added with a soft mildly amused smile.
?
She wished there was something stronger in the tea suddenly, and that she'd not come here to sober up. The headiness of the wine made things so much easier...but more dangerous in a way as well, as it seemed to lift all care for control and she couldn't go about making decisions in such a mind set or perhaps was it lack there of?
?
Either way it wasn't something she was at all accustom to and she didn't mind that in the least. Going out on a limb as it were, being adventurous, well it felt nice. She had enjoyed her evening out thus far. It felt somehow as though there could be surprises around every corner if she looked hard enough. That was exciting, and gave her the perhaps false feeling of options that she fully intended to enjoy at this point.
?
?
?
At Katherine's next comment Mina gave a surprised laugh. Perhaps this new friend of hers had indulged even more than she in the wine for they weren't going to be around in centuries to watch anything.
?
"Well unless you're speaking of being phantoms, which somehow feels quite depressing even if they are free...We shall never know how things will turn out in one hundred years or more. We only have the now to work with...but...perhaps in other countries things are more liberated? I have read things...but not traveled that much at all, in part due to lack of proper funds," she admitted with a slight shrug.

Katherine understood the need to avoid ¡®loved ones¡¯ as she couldn't very well discuss her thoughts or emotions on this particular subject with her children who would simply encourage her to remain at their father's side even though these days it felt less and less like he gave a damn one way or another.?

Victor looked relieved when Hyde stated that he hadn't ruined anything, but the expression was shortlived; he was horrified when Henry spoke of..."removing the old man's difficulties completely."? "Ah good sir, please, do save your strength, and squander not another minute on so much as the thought of him, he is but a stray, smouldering coal, a mere ghost of life, not worth the time and effort of a challenge."? And Victor should know, for he had seen very life in the infancy of a very grown-up creation, life in its full vitality; it had frightened him, very unlike the elderly man had done.
?
When Rena asked about their scientific gathering at a later time, Victor gave a slight smile.? "Oh yes well...we...didn't exactly have the chance to discuss it, thanks to...certain interruptions..."? He indicated said interruption out of the corner of one eye, not hearing what Rena had told Hyde about getting the fellow later.? He looked rather uneasy at the mention of a dinner party, then remembered, he had... indeed come up with a suitable last name to give them, should the subject arise again; of course if it didn't, then no harm done, but just exactly how much...should he tell them about what he was doing.? Elizabeth...had been his main project, almost to the point of obsession, and he wondered, whether or not he should tell them her real name either.? But why was he so frightened, he asked himself, they were just...people, after all, people interested in science.? He returned Rena's smile when she suggested that Leti could come to the party as well, if Henry decided to give one; "A most pleasant suggestion indeed," he agreed, turning a warm smile to Leti, then you'd not have to miss anything."?

"I missed you too,"Rena told Henry with a warm smile, twining her arms around his neck in an impulsive hug that the drink made far too easy.
In his ear she murmured,"If you really need to get him better we wait outside and in the dark for when he's drunk and leaving. Or tomorrow evening when we're more sober could be even more fun. I"m good either way."
?
She kissed his ear lightly before straightening and turning toward what was left of her stew.
?
Leti rolled her eyes and shook her head slightly in Victor's direction, mind still on Rena's dress, or what little of it there had been. She very much wanted to ask but here was not the place or time she knew.
?
?
"Ah wasn't your fault,"Leti replied to Victor as she still struggled with her inner sulk and why she didn't understand the reasons for it. The potential violence which she so disliked was part but something with the explanation she had really wanted about the disconcerting shockingly short dress was another. She didn't know what to make of it.
?
Rena smiled at Victor as she took another mouthful of stew and after swallowing she asked,"So...I'm rather drunk right now, right...Like what did we decide about our scientific get together?"
?
She turned to Henry brightly.
?
"A dinner party? Should you have a dinner party, Love? Then we could be private at least."
?
Leti found herself struggling not to turn away.
?
"But you were so interesting," she half pleaded.
"I'd miss you all if you stopped meeting here!"
?
"Yeah but we can't talk important scientific stuff here,"Rena said carefully before taking another mouthful of stew.
?
Then as an idea occurred to her she smiled brightly.
?
"Wait. I know...You should come too if Henry does decide to have a dinner party," she told Leti happily.
?
"I probably need to talk to you anyway, right?"
?
"That...Would be...nice yes," Leti said slowly.
"I've never been to a dinner party."

She glanced down at her work clothes while mentally picturing her best dress, nothing as nice as the heavy velvet cloak Rena had wrapped around her. Still it would have to do. That was if the doctor decided to have the dinner party. She looked at him expectantly, glad to see he was more interested in his lady once more than in the old man.
?
"If he makes anymore trouble I'll have him thrown out," she told Henry quietly, glancing in the direction of the old man's table.
?
If? these fascinating people left and didn't return, she somehow knew she'd be losing...something. Some rare glimpse into...better things.

I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed.
I get along with the voices inside of my head.

Locked Re: No Place Like London (Victor/Henry/Rena/Leti)

"Oh no, not at all," Henry Hyde tried to sound amicable as he made his cursory attempt at reassuring the man. It could have gone much better, had Victor omitted the last part in his words. Because in this instance, even a modicum of agreement only added fuel to the fires of his internal forge. "Ah yes, that ass, he is so very aged, as you say. A difficult old creature does not cover it. In fact, I am almost of a mind to remove his difficulties once and for all. Perhaps, if I guard him all the way back to the gates of Hell from whence he came..." Henry realized only too late, that his emphatic act of agreeing with Victor's words almost brought him back to the boiling point.
?
Thinking of apologizing again for misbehaving in Rena's company, Henry was initially relieved and them amused at her unexpected acceptance of his behavior. "Perhaps we will," Henry confirmed agreeably, his anger melting away, as if its validation served to soothe his temper.
?
It was peculiar how Victor's attempt worked quite the opposite effect on him, Henry noted with some curiosity and had to wonder if his earlier jealousy still contributed indirectly to his suspicions of Victor's sincerity. Well, it didn't matter now, he intended to push such thoughts firmly out of his mind. The man had shown him nothing but respect, and Rena was not going to be swayed so easily from his charms.
?
He may not be certain himself what kind of charms they were, but it only took one to experience their influence, and the fact that Rena happened to be that one, was quite sufficient for him to be reassured of his victory over...Victor. The irony of his thoughts made him smile. Fortunately, he had the perfect excuse to keep that smile and use it in relation to Rena's remark.
?
"Well, I have not envisioned myself saying it only a few hours hence, but the fun was glaringly miniscule when the light of your presence no longer...shone, on this establishment," Henry quickly complimented, relieved at being able to think of some suitable words and hopeful he would not be required to keep coming up with more, because inspiration was definitely leaving him behind.
