Cabin in the Woods (Max/Katherine)

Katherine was nothing if not resourceful, not surprisingly the Salvatore boys had been rather shortsighted in their last encounter easily buying her claims that actions taken were purely about getting revenge. One would think they would have learned there was always much more to her plans than how it appeared. This time around her endgame had involved opening the door to 'hell' just long enough to spring a woman trapped there who possessed certain abilities that would help her be not dead anymore.

?

Stefan's death was most unfortunate. If she could have renegotiated the terms of her deal to include him...she might have were it not being for his having 'killed' her twice then there was the fact he'd married Caroline Forbes of all people. A decision she still couldn't wrap her head. The only possible explanation being his taste in women had taken a dive.

?

She left the comfort of a rather nice cabin purchased for her use by the leader of a more 'old school' group of Travelers who began training her eleven months ago when she returned. Both in magic and other ways of protecting herself (i.e. Weapons and a more hands on approach). Heading through the woods toward a local 'swimming hole' with a towel draped over her arm dressed in a black tank top and a pair of denim shorts with sandals on her feet.

?

The walk wasn't all that far as the cabin itself remained in sight. She took full advantage of whatever means of entertainment were available to her as heading into town came with risks. But she did on occasion go there, though never alone. Now neighboring towns were a whole different story.?

Max Darkwood looked around the wooded area he was in.??he couldn’t remember how he got there..??everything was a blur. He sniffed smelling the wild life around him. The scent of moisture had hit his noise signaling water was nearby. he could feel his throat was dry to the bone almost like he hadn’t drank anything for a long while.??His golden eyes scanned his surroundings his ears listening for any dangers. He began walking towards the water source.??The fur cloak he had on dragged the ground slightly.
?
?
?
As he got closer to the water sourse he could smell a womans scent.??He grew curious??keeping to the thickest part of the woods so not to be noticed.??Max saw the cabin come into view then the woman. Who was heading towards the water. He looked between the woman and the cabin.??He never seen a structure like that before.??Then there was the woman.??She was quite the beauty.??He couldn’t help but check her out.??He wondered what animal she was wearing as he never seen such cloths before.
?
?
?
He got closer jumping up into a tree as he watched over the beauty before him.??Something about her seemed to catch his attention.

Katherine walked over to a fallen tree near the 'swimming hole' where she placed the towel pausing slightly when she felt as if she were being watched. Slowly turning in a small circle as brown eyes searched her surroundings for any sign of someone lurking about. Shaking her head when it appeared she was alone. "I must be losing my mind." She half muttered.
?
She reached down with both hands pulling the shirt over her head then tossing it onto the old log where her denim shorts soon found themselves as well. The bikini clad brunette left her sandals close by once they were removed then made her way into the water. Wading in until it reached her shoulders, the cool water felt so good on her skin, taking a moment before finally going for a swim.
?
Being out here was both relaxing and boring at the same time. But she would learn to cope with the latter since she wasn't quite ready for the rest of the world to know that 'Katherine Pierce' was alive and well. Enjoying herself for a little longer then heading back towards the shore slowly emerging from the water as it became more shallow.

Max watched Katherine from afar. Though he was thirsty he didn’t want to startle the beauty. He ducked down slightly as she looked around as if sensing he was watching her. he watched as she undressed and had on what he wonder was scrap cloth covering her private parts.??It didn’t seem much to the clothing unaware it was called a bikini.
?
?
?
He jumped down from the tree as she entered the water.??He used the chance to get close but staying out of sight.??He listened to her swimming.??He looked around the tree watching her as the light seemed to dance over her skin beautiful.??His throat seemed to get drier as he watched her. as she exited the water he growled not at her but the scent of a cougar.? he had been so focused on her he hadn't noticed it.?The wild cat seemed to be coming to get water but instead found Katherine.
?
?
?
Everything happened quickly before Katherine.??Max had left his hiding spot and charged.??He was quick as the cougar pounced max had intercepted it wreastling it. the roar of the pissed of cougar could be heard then a snap as max had killed it.??though he was scratched up pretty good. max turned to face Katherine his golden eyes looking at her and said “are you okay?”

Katherine had barely gotten out of the water when there was a skirmish which seemed to end as quickly as it began. Her brown eyes darting between the dead cougar lying on the ground and the oddly dressed man with all the scratches. It took a second for her to realize what must have happened though the why remained a bit of a mystery.?
?
One eyebrow rose in surprise at his question. Definitely not a local. But if he was...the only possible explanation for not letting her be mauled to death had to be a case of mistaken identity because outside of the Travelers no one else in this town would lift a finger to save her ass or care enough to ask about her wellbeing afterwards if they did.?
?
"I...ummm...." Slowly looking over to the dead cougar then back to him again still trying to make up her mind about him. "I...I'm okay." No ordinary man would have taken such a risk (at least she hadn't known any who would) so that raised a lot of questions. "Are you okay? Do you need to go to a hospital?" She had picked up some first aid through the centuries just from watching the humans around her. So, more minor injuries were something she could handle.
?
She stepped over grabbing the towel which she wrapped around herself carefully tying it so that it wouldn't fall. Quickly grabbing the rest of her stuff then moving closer to check on him. "You should probably get those looked at. I can maybe get you bandaged up." She offered figuring it couldn't hurt.?
?
It might be good to have someone who was the heroic type on her side. Plus he had just saved her life which was strange enough on its own without the concern that followed. Honestly she didn't know which confused her more.?

Max had watched the woman before him look between him and the cougar. He ignored the pain of the scratchs.??He had been more concern about her.??relieved when she mention she was okay.??He said “hospital what is that…?”??he was curious.??He watched her closely.??He could sense she didn’t fear him.??He would of thought killing a cougar in front of her would startle her.
?
?
?
When she mention she could bandage him up. He nodded accepting her off.??He looked at the cougar briefly.??He would have to remember later to come back later to skin it and have the meat for later for dinner.??His golden eyes looked into Katherine’s as if trying to read her ust like she was trying to figure him out.
?
?
?
He was unaware of her past. Hell he couldn’t even remember his own.??he wouldn’t care regardless.??He could never leave someone who was in danger.??Especially someone as beautiful as her. he said "My name is Max Darkwood"

If Katherine were to hazard a guess based on his attire this man was either recently back from the dead or a centuries old hermit. One eyebrow lifted at his question which didn't exactly solve the mystery as both could easily still fit. "It's..." Taking a moment to decide on the best way of explaining what a hospital was to someone who quite possibly hadn't had any contact with the world outside of these woods in quite some time.?
?
"It's a place where medicine men can be found or maybe you called them healers." She wasn't altogether certain which term the strangely dressed man might be more familiar with. There was a part of her that suspected this might be more of a headache than it was worth but she'd play the hand she was dealt all the same.?
?
Darkwood? She couldn't recall crossing paths with anyone by that name during past trips to this town. Was there any connection to the Lockwood family? Pushing down those thoughts in order to remain focused. "Katherine Pierce." Somewhere in the back of her mind she had already begun deciding what personal information to share and what was best kept to herself.?
?
"Let's get you inside...see what we can do about those scratches." Never in a million years would she have imagined herself becoming a 'nursemaid' but if it secured her a potential bodyguard in a town where most of the residents would have her head on a stick. She started moving toward the cabin hoping he'd follow.?

Max listened to Katherine.??He could tell he confused her some. He shrugged and said “ah a shaman I see. Is one far. Last I heard they were very rare. so you must be well informed to know one.”??he smiled as talked about hospitals.??He took her hand and kissed it and said “it’s a honor to meet you Miss Katherine Pierce.”??He nodded and began to follow.??He said “do I need to collect any herbs to assist you with my bandages.” As they got closer to the cabin he looked at it closely he had never seen anything like it.??his people usually lived in caves and any building that were around were very primitive.??He wondered if Katherine was of high rank like a princess or something.??he could tell she been staying here a while as her scent was everywhere.

Katherine briefly considered the idea of loading him into the car, however, she quickly decided against doing so because of the questions it would raise. Of course, it had occurred to her that his appearance could easily be explained away as some form of cosplay perhaps intended to 'spice up their love life' when their little wilderness getaway was interrupted by a cougar.?
?
If the wounds were serious enough she would cross that bridge when she came to it. "Doctors as they're called these days aren't all that rare." She offered a smile as her hand was kissed, briefly feeling as if someone had turned back the clock. The man had clearly been dead longer than she had been alive or he lived an extremely sheltered life. Those were the only possible explanations for anyone to consider meeting her an honor.
?
"I should have everything I need in the first aid kit." It wasn't how she expected to be spending her day but maybe it could work out to her advantage. Leading the way she stepped up onto the porch moving over to open the door which she held open once inside. "Okay. I gotta ask. Why would you go toe to toe with a cougar?"?

Max listened to Katherine as she spoke. He was surprised to learn doctors were not so rare as he thought they were everything was so strange and unfamiliar.??He was seeing things he never thought or even imagine existed.??He looked around the cabin as he entered.??Everything was strange to him.??So many different smells.??Of course katherines scent was the main one he smelled. He reach up and rubbed the moonstone he hand around his neck.?
?
?
?
He said “this is a strange place.??I have never seen anything like this.”??He looked closely at things and then turned back at Katherine. He smiled and laughed slightly. He said “that is easy to answer. you were in danger. It would be dishonorable of me not to help when I have the power to.” He didn’t mention about he healed quicker than humans. Even in his time being a werewolf and someone finding out could be death.

Katherine kept things surprisingly simple as far as her choice in decoration, feeling no real need to opt for the so-called finer things. It would surprise those who knew her because as a vampire she had so often picked the most lavish foreclosure to settle into whenever she blew into town. Perhaps her tastes were changing or maybe simply reverting back to the way they were centuries ago. Either way she supposed it didn't matter.?
?
She walked into the small kitchen bending down to look the cabinet nearest the entrance. It only took a second of rummaging around for her to find the small box of medical supplies her benefactors had left behind. "These days...most men would either run or film the attack to be posted on Facebook later on."
?
For now, she wouldn't comment on the fact most wouldn't lift a finger if it meant saving HER life because she wasn't exactly winning any popularity contests in Mystic Falls nor did she particularly care to. Okay, so, maybe that was stretching the truth a little but she'd never admit to it.?

Max said “this is all to strange. I never seen anything like this place you are staying in.”??he watched Katherine as she was digging in the cabinet.??He could help admiring the sight.??Katherine was quite a beauty.??He couldn’t understand why she was alone.??He said “I am surprised you don’t have a husband to defend you. Though something tells me you are capable of taking care of yourself.”
?
?
?
He let Katherine work not flinching as she work.??Katherine could see??he had many scars he had obtained from hunts and many battles from his past. He said “ I do not know what you mean about filming and facebook. Though if any man runs from a woman in danger particularly a beautiful one like you. They are not a man and dishonor themselves along with their family. I want put up with such weakness.”
?
?
?
Max said “regardless of all that.??how can I repay you for bandaging me up.??Perhaps I can make you dinner.??I can also set some traps and stuff to make sure you don’t have any more animels try and attack you.”

Katherine decided to take the leap even if it made her sound a little insane. All the pieces were starting to fit more with one theory than the other about her 'hero'. "So, back from the dead or...a total recluse?" Seemed the most direct way of solving the mystery that was the man standing before her. One eyebrow lifted at his mention of a husband. "I never married. There was someone I loved but..."
?
She shook her head to clear all thoughts of Stefan Salvatore who killed her more than once. "It's been my experience that the ones who supposedly love you are the ones who pose the greatest threat to your survival." It was a bleak way of looking at life...at love. But how else was she supposed to see it after all this time?
?
Carefully going about cleaning and dressing his wounds she noticed the scars but made no mention of them. She, of course, hadn't missed being called beautiful as was evident by a brief smile. "Then I'm afraid you're going to be seriously disappointed with this 'day and age'." Her brown eyes briefly went to his face.
?
"You don't owe me anything. I mean, you did just save me from becoming a mountain lion's dinner." She was already considering the possibilities of keeping him close might be when faced with a town of people who might well string her up in the town square. "But it would be nice to not have to worry about any more animal attacks."

Max listened as he let her bandaged him alittle more.??He said “im sorry for your loss. Though I agree to a point about love being a great threat but it can be a great strength in many ways. Perhaps one day you will see that.” he smiled at her nicely.
?
?
?
Max said “perhaps with you I want be so disappointed.”??When she finished he stood and said “you did a good job.??I thank you for bandaging me.”??he looked outside through the window.??He said” very well. Though I have a feeling I can make a pretty good meal. Regardless I will make sure your well protected. After all I wouldn’t want you to a be dinner from the wildlife. By the scent I would say there are many predatory animels located in this area.??It shouldn’t be hard though to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

“Many years ago…I felt differently.” Katherine admitted barely able to remember the girl she once was…the one Stefan would have loved. She couldn't quite hide her surprise at hearing something that sounded so dangerously close to wishing her ‘love and happiness’. “One can only hope.” The brunette responded with a friendly smile once she finished patching him up.
?
If she were to be successful things would have to be handled just as Elena would do. “With me?” She asked innocently enough of his not being so disappointed, one eyebrow lifted as brown eyes studied him briefly. “It's the least I could do seeing as how you got hurt saving me.”
?
She rose to her feet setting about putting the first aid kit away before moving to lean back against the wall with arms loosely folded beneath her chest. “It might be a massive undertaking…making sure that I’m protected.” She had added the last bit in clarification.?

Max smiled as he listened to her and said “who knows deep down you might still feel that way.??Deep down we never truly lose feeling??they just get buried deep down. A soul and a heart is a fragile thing.” He gently took her hand.??He said “so don’t give up hope.”??He smiled as he watched her pack the first aid kit and left to put it up.?He said “perhaps if that is what you wish.”??He smirked as it seemed alittle flirting was going on between them.
?
?
?
Max smiled and said “well I would do it again in a heart beat.” He laughed and got up and stretched.??She could see his more manly features.??He said “Massive undertaking or not. I will make sure your safe. I would swear my honor on that.”

Katherine was skeptical of anyone who wished her well as most were far more inclined to do something violent that brought a swift end to her life. But calling him on that might jeopardize any chance of getting herself a bodyguard for that added bit of protection. “Sometimes a person changes so much that a feeling is lost…maybe even forever.”
?
Circumstances had forced her into ‘putting on a mask’ long ago and somewhere along the way it became who she was. “Because of my little…indiscretion I was exiled by my own father who took my daughter away the night she was born.” She figured sharing something about herself would help build trust between them.?
?
It was odd how something so simple as his hand closing around her own gave her pause when it came to her plans but she quickly shook it off. “Maybe I do…wish it.” She replied with a slight smirk.
?
The doppelg?nger stood with her back against the wall slowly giving him a once over with an appreciative look as he stretched. “If you think you're up for the role of bodyguard to someone who has ticked off a lot of people.”

Max smiled and said “usually what is lost can be found if its wanted. like I said the heart and soul are delicate things. There is always a new day to move forward. Its true a person can change and it may feel hopeless to feel anything.??though people can always change deep down. So don’t always give up hope. Each day moves forward and so can anyone.”??He smiled at her.

?

He then listen as she spoke about her past.??He said “im sorry you were faced with so much hardship. I cant imagine having to go through all that. especially alone.”??He watched her closely.??He did trust her.??he could see deep down she was more than who she thought she was. she was more than the mask she wore. He may not remember who he was or his own past but perhaps he could help her face her demons and protect her.??he went to her and took her hand kissing it as he knelt and said “I pledge my life to protect you now and forever. No one shall lay a hand on you as long as im at your side.”??It was a rather romantic gesture and almost seem like a proposel.

“Change isn't always for the better though.” Katherine appreciated the sentiment behind his words even if she wasn't entirely convinced they were genuine. It was just difficult to accept that anyone could honestly believe in that sort of thing. “Who knows…I just might be too far gone.” She saw no reason to hide the fact as it was all in the manner in which one presented certain bits of information.
?
Maybe deep down she wanted to find a person that games were not required with but switching gears might prove difficult after five centuries of viewing people as chess pieces to be moved across the board. “It was one of those ‘key moments’ that helped shape the woman I became.” Sympathy wasn't something she was accustomed to getting.?
?
She inclined her head as he knelt down with one eyebrow beginning to rise. It was a gesture that in the old days would have instantly brought a smile to her face but these days it left her taking a moment to determine what angle a person might have. “You sure you wanna make that promise?” If he honestly intended to see that through then she would have to figure out the best way of telling her story.?

Max listened to Katherine and reached up and gently placed his hand over her heart.??He said “you may not see it I can see you are not to far gone.??I have hope that you will find you will surprise yourself. No one say change is always good but you can learn from each change”??he smiled at her. perhaps it was his alpha nature he was so wise??if she looked into his eyes she could see he would never give up on her.

?

He smiled and laughed when she asked if he was sure in his promise to her. he said “a warrior never makes a promise he would not keep. If I must prove more I can imprint on you. Though by doing so would mean the bond of marriage and mating to my kind.”
