开云体育?Dear Mike,? Thank you for raising the issue about abbreviations. You are not the only one who struggles to understand abbreviations. I’m afraid, I’ve seen too many summers and my brain is not as sharp as I was in my 40’s or 50’s. As a matter of interest - We were always taught at College and at Work in the 60’s/70’s, that, if you are going to use an abbreviation, (in your letter/report etc.) then at its initial use, you always put the full description followed by the abbreviation. I’ll use one of Mike’s example namely:-? Vintage Thunderbirds Of Houston (VTOH) then you only need to repeat the abbreviation in the remaining part of your letter etc. That’s why some of you may find my messages a little long winded. In which case I apologise. I don’t find writing at all easy but I try my best to explain things ?- if I have missed an abbreviation then, I again apologise. In my work, I must admit I occasionally assumed the others understood abbreviations. None of us are perfect.? This is not a criticism - just my way of trying to be helpful to the group.? David? When writing anything and using an acronym or abbreviation, I try to write out the full set of words and then afterwards put the acronym in parentheses.? That way future uses of it have already been identified in the document.? I think that is a complement to the reader.?
For example: electric vehicle??(EV);? World Health Organization (WHO); value added tax (VAT) ralphie |
