hi mark
yeah, good idea building a shed in the back, but...
1. all the way down there? and all night alone by itself?
un huh. had to wait too long to get it.
have to do it here. I'm thinking a full surround, drawers under, turn
just aluminum and very slow and light cuts. probably be awkward, but...
oh well,
thanks for the reply

Well you could build a 4-post bed with a higher than normal sleeping
shelf and a workbench under. Just not sure what your lady might say. I
know what mine would. No, she doesn't read this forum. :-)

G'day John & FRI.
"Well you could build a 4-post bed with a higher than normal sleeping

What a creative way to spend a sleepness night! Unfortunately the 7x12
is too small to turn a thread on the four posts so they can act a screw
jacks to raise the bed clear of the bench.
Thank goodness the humour is back. The chip pan belongs in the kitchen.

The splash guard is a nuisance but does keep the swarf and oil closer
to where they originated. I keep tripping over s bit of piano hinge
which reminds me that the hinge could be placed along the bottom of the
guard allowing it to be swung back for greater clearance. Some form of
fastening like a case clip could be placed at the headstock end to hold
the guard in its normal place.

One good turn deserves another.

Ian

If you mean you live in an apartment, I used my lathe and a drill press
that way for years. The regular splash guard will keep much of the swarf
from escaping backwards and sideways, and building a similar vertical
guard around the back and sides of your work bench will also help.

For swarf that escapes to the front, an open drawer in the work bench
will catch quite a bit, and a magnet near the tool will also help, if
you're cutting steel. Finally, a shop vac held near the tool will catch
all kinds of metal, but will also create a lot of noise.

hi all
I'm a cliff dweller and have a 7x12 on order. I think I must
construct
some sort of enclosure to contain the fly-offs. (have to get along
with the lady that cleans up)
anyone got a design, or just suggestions.....
thanks
