Groups.io Migration Update
2
Thanks to everybody that donated funds to cover the migration to groups.io We have received enough funds to cover the moving of the 4x6bandsaw group and have paid the Premium Membership started the transfer process. fortunately we managed to get the jump on the price increase and got in at the old rates. Members should receive a notice from groups.io once the transfer is completed. /groups This should take you to a listing of all your groups. /g/4x6bandsaw this will take you to the 4x6 Again thanks for your support in making this possible to preserve the wealth of information that the groups have amassed over the years. ATTENTION: Yahoo discontinuing group files, photos, messages, etc.
26
FYI, Yahoo is reducing groups to basic email forwarding. We will lose all storage (photos, files, messages, etc., see below). There is a small two line notice at the top of the page if you go to the group Yahoo webpage. I just found out about this last night. I notified out group owner but have not received a response yet. If you want anything from the files or photos, DOWNLOAD IT NOW! Everything will go away in three weeks. Below is the information from Yahoo. Ken, group moderator ====================================================== Understand what's changing in Yahoo Groups Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site. Beginning October 21, you won't be able to upload any more content to the site, and as of December 14 all previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed. You'll have until that date to save anything you've uploaded. What features will go away? Files Polls Links Photos Folders Calendar Database Attachments Conversations Email Updates Message Digest Message History What will happen to the site? The Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist, however, all public groups will be made private or restricted. Any new group members will need to request an invite or be invited by an admin. Admins will still be able to manage various group settings, though some functionality will be limited. What will happen on October 21st? On October 21st, you will no longer be able to upload any content to the site. To share info with members of your groups, you'll continue to be able to do so via email. How can I keep my Yahoo Groups content? Photos and files can be saved right from the Yahoo Groups site, or you can download your data from the Privacy Dashboard. Will I be able to use Yahoo Groups going forward? You'll still be able to communicate with your groups via email and search for private groups on the site. In addition, admins will continue to have limited access to group settings and administration tools.

Fundraising to switch to groups.io was Re: ATTENTION: Yahoo discontinuing group files, photos, messages, etc.

? Ryan and group There has been interest expressed in migrating the group to groups.io Joe and I have already secured a group name there to start the process. The next step is to upgrade the group to a premium subscription for one year. This has a cost of $110 not sure if that is USD or CDN. If the group has less than 1 gb of data used we can drop back to a free plan after the year is up. As I have 20 odd groups I am dealing with I can not afford to bear the whole cost of this. If members want to contribute towards this it would be appreciated once I have collected the funds I will proceed with the migration process. An etransfer will probably work the best, mark it as 4x6bandsaw group. Walter Townsend, TTDr Starlight Tools starlight_tools@...

funding 4x6bandsaw mailing list on groups.io

Thank you to Joe and Walter for setting up this new group. I've sent a message to support on groups.io to see if there is anyway of implementing a system for group uses to donate directly to the running of the premium service on groups.io for their specific mailing list. I'm assuming collecting the funding is a problematic issue for a lot of public information groups like ours and it would be in groups.io best interest if they could provide a solution to help. I'll let you know if I get any replies. Thanks again. Steve Tauranga New Zealand.

Moving Yahoo info to group.IO
Joe Thanks for your input. Seems that groups.io is insisting on the groups being premium members to do the transfer now which is a $110.00 hit for each group. You can downgrade after the first year. Walter

Thanks!

...for setting this up. I'm a new owner of a Harbor Freight 4x6, so new that it's still in the box awaiting completion of my garage shop reorganization. I look forward to modifying it for regular and robust use as a vertical saw, as that's the way I expect to use it most.

Thanks Joe Melhorn for Creating the Group
Thanks for doing this, Joe. If I can help getting files moved over, I am willing, as long as someone tells me exactly what to do. "I searched Groups.io for 4x6bandsaw and it was available. I went ahead and created it. I am now the sole moderator. If the moderator for this y4x6bandsaw@... group will contact me off-list at toyman (at) sbcglobal (dot) net, I will try to help facilitate getting the group files moved over. Right now you can go to groupps.io and search for 4x6bandsaw and join. That nmay be the only way to get members over to the new site. Regards, Joe Melhorn Sahuarita, AZ"

I'm also in the Atlas/Craftsman .io group and it works much better now than when it was on Yahoo. I seem to recall that there was a very small fee for storage, and we collected enough for a couple of years worth with a solicitation of the group members that was a few dollars each.

Due to the confusion getting photos on Yahoo if you would like the HSM Sep/Oct 1997 Band Saw Table/Seat article. And photos showing mine in use, email me direct neilbfield@... requesting and I’ll send direct to your email address. Included are photos of my Low Profile wood base featured in the HSM magazine Jan/Feb 1994. Neil Butterfield

This looks like the one I built. The advantage of this one is it will fit in the saw vertical or horizontal – it does not need to be removed for “normal” operation. Bob

I copied & pasted the pic to a Word doc, and then copied & pasted it from Word doc to the email. Seems I have to do that often with Yahoo, as pics on the group are un-openable. Bill Get Outlook for iOS
