Folks;

In mid-July, I posted the original OT message about bandsaw
performance problems, and got several thoughtful replies which taken
together would be a nice FAQ on bandsaw checkups. I tried all of them
and actually got the saw to cut much better, probably because of a
loose belt.

Here's what else I found after looking more carefully inside the bow
(the oval housing the blade?).

One of the 2 hex screws (farthest from the motor) that holds the
folding plastic protective shroud around the belt and pulleys
penetrates the bow far enough to interfere with the blade.

Probably my fault for not finding this out earlier, but a little
grinding or a shorter hex screw will solve the problem.

Many thanks for the replies.

Check the tightness of the setscrew(s) in both motor and gearbox
pulleys. I have had one work loose and produce erratic behavior
until it finally could drive no more.

Folks;

My 4x6 HF bandsaw has developed some performance problems with
only
about 3 or 4 hours use.

It stutters or jerks, with the blade appearing to slow or pause
for
a
very brief moment, then picks up, then stutters again. The cuts
it
produces are uneven, particularly in the horizontal mode.

It will stutter in both vertical and horizontal modes, even when
not
cutting.

I can't see any obvious problems. Drive worm and worm gear appear
aligned and are fully lubed. Blade is running on the wheels in
what
appears proper alignment. I did have to reef down on the tension
settings to keep the blade on the wheels. Have I overtightened?

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Is it electrical?
Mechanical?

TIA for any ideas.

Joe F
