I think that a variable speed motor would be perfect. I am thinking of the same thing once my motors go out depending on the motor weight, you may need to add some weight with it for the normal balance Clint ----- Original Message -----

1/3HP motor from Harbor freight and put that on there. Now it runs smoother, quieter, and cooler. The only catch is that the shaft diameter is 1/2" instead of 5/8" so had to make a sleeve so the pulley would fit, no big deal. The new motor fits right on with the same bolts and everything. I sure wouldn't do that - I'm saving my treadmill motors for some
thing that needs variable speed. My 4x6 bandsaw is set on the middle step on the pulley, and has always been there. I'm not in a big hurry in my shop. If yours is a comercial operation, that is different, and you may need all the flexibility you can get.
