do this. I also see where some folks are converting their saws to
run with a coolant which I know will be better. MY question is how
can I convert my saw to run coolant, I will have to fabricate some
kind of pan to catch the coolant and it will have to swivel with
the
head.

This link has a picture and tells about adding on a coolant system.
The pan does not swivel with the saw. Only used in the down
position. Harbor Freight has a small coolant setup for about $35.
Several listmembers have used this model. I ordered one from HF but
it has been backordered for several weeks. One thing to consider is
if you would like to have a saw that sits on a higher stand. I did
not think about this when I built the stand to the dimensions in the
article but looking back I would like it a little higher. Good luck,
Rich W.

DOALL SAW

Is the DOALL brand saw the same saw as the HF and other imports?
Thanks,

Accordin to what some fellers have told me ... a blade will wear on
on one side of the teeth after a period of extended use. They say
bout all ya can do is replace the blade. I wudn't think a new saw
wud have a worn blade, but it wudn't be the first time an inventory
item has been used an returned to stock. Corse I have no scientific
proof, but I do have a lot of cow pasture wisdom. ... :o) TEX

Hi all, my name is Bill. I bought my 4x6 bandsaw from Tractor supply
locally for 179$. Their brand name is Clarke.

My bandsaw, im not sure if its the blade guides or how they drilled
the castings, but when I cut anything, the cut is allways slanted,
the cut moves towards the cut off end as the blade moves down. Im
hoping it is just the blade guides needing to be set.

Another thing I need to fix is that last time I moved it, the wheels
slid out from underneath it, and the saw landed on the motor. It
bent the motor mounting plate like a piece of tin foil.
After reading a few posts, I think I should also drain my oil out,
and replace it.

New Bandsaw

I am a new member here, and I just bought myself a new Jet bandsaw
this past weekend. I would like to thank everyone here for their
posts because it was this sight that convinced me a saw like this
would be just what I was looking for.

I ordered my Lenox Diemaster 10-14 blade from J&L Industrial Supply
(). They also carry the Lenox Band-Ade
cutting fluid. The Lenox blade is absolutely wonderful and is just a
world of difference compared to the blade that came with the saw.

Based on the input from this forum I know that I must get rid of the
blade that came on the saw and get a b-metal blade and I am going to
do this. I also see where some folks are converting their saws to
run with a coolant which I know will be better. MY question is how
can I convert my saw to run coolant, I will have to fabricate some
kind of pan to catch the coolant and it will have to swivel with the
head. Does the coolant hurt the rubber on the blade tires? Has
anyone converted one of these saws to run on coolant and if so do
you have some pictures of what you did. Also which speed is best for
cutting just regular 1/4 or smaller angle iron or steel? Thanks,
sorry for so many questions. ... pmaples

Thanks Catboat. Any suggestions on where to get a better vise or how to make one. I had to do some grinding on the leadscrew nut of this one before it would work right, it had a casting bard left on it that was interfering with it working right. Didn't take long just had to be done.

Check the oil in the gearbox first. Then you may want to add thingies like better mounting, vice etc. After checking the oil then get a better bi-metal blade.

Re: Bi-Metal blades - which brand??

TEX

Neat idea. Where did ya git the pump or what type? They use a
similar settlin tank when they drill fer oil only a lot bigger. ...
TEX

I use only Lenox bi-metal blades in my 4x6 bandsaw. Also, I use
water soluble oil/water as a coolant solution that is recirculated
by a little pump. The cuts are precise and quick. The blades last
very long too.See the photos section of my setup. I also have an
article about building a coolant system on the cheap. Cheers, Cletus

Re: Grizzly G9742 Bandsaw

Jeff Moskovitz

Hi Paul,

I bought the same saw about 6 weeks ago. I like it a lot. A few comments:

1) It will easily function in vertical mode if you unscrew the pin that
attached the saw to the downfeed piston.

2) Get a bimetal blade as soon as you can; the stock blade is pretty poor.

Take your time and go through the saw to make everything square. I ended up
enlarging one of the mounting holes for the jaw on the vise, as the vise
wasn't closing square. There are many small adjustments you can make, so
just take your time and use a good square or dial indicator.

Overall, I think it's a pretty good saw and am very happy to finally have a
metal cutting band saw in my garage.
